Vern was always so much fun to work with. He was a generous guy and would always help strangers and those around him. I will always fondly remember him nick naming me ‘the pit bull’. He would always laugh and joke about that. RIP gentle giant. You will be missed.

Gini, Carla and family. We were so sorry to hear about Vern. Few people in my life have left such a positive mark. I always enjoyed the conversations with Vern. Such a gentle, positive person. Our thoughts are with all of you.

Hi Gini- sorry- I do not know what to say- maybe this?? Hey Vern; Have’nt seen you for a while- we used to have great conversations down on tear-drop alley and up at our new yard. Lots of good memories in the years when we worked for Pat. Especially when you would be my pilot car in and out of Ucluelet? and Tofino- remember how you used to say on the radio-“watch this” as you were passing the the protesters walking on the highway- and turn the ignition off then on at the right moment and a huge backfire from your pickup would scare the sh– out of everyone with camping gear etc scattered everywhere, of course I tried to miss all the camping gear with the lowbed–. Wonder if Pat ever knew about this backfire problen his pick up had? thinking about it now -?Remember good times down at the office (bar) in Ucluelet- were you part of the ????? that removed all the wheels off of Pat’s jeep one time? then the cops came- think your face was a little redder then–
I remember the time when I had the gallstone thing happen in while there and you drove the lowbed back to Cobble Hill while I rode in the co-pilot seat? I did have to change the aux gears now and again for you but you were pretty darn good- always there if a person needed a hand- never excited- just a little grin- Yes, you were a great guy to work for and with- and years later you always came around to see how we were doing and tell us about your latest projects and lots of stories- and of course your boat- in which we never did do our fishing trip- I could probably tell a hundred or more stories as could many others—Yes -my friend – you were always around and if someone needed a hand– you were there–I will miss you—
your friend – Rich

Dear Gini and Family,
John and I learned of Vern’s passing just recently and we would like to express our sincere condolences to you. John has many heartfelt and hilarious memories he shared with Vern when they worked together years ago. He truly was a gentle giant. He was kind and he was thoughtful. We remember fondly the funny stories he shared and the pleasure of his company. The world is a duller place without him.
