Dearest Jean, our thoughts are with you as you gather the strength needed to endure this most tragic loss of your loving Hans….the twinkle in Hans’ eye when he greeted us with a big smile and warmest hug, talking together in your beautiful garden, watching Hans serve up another most scrumptious roast at a family diner, hearing the adventures of you both travelling to Holland to visit family, listening to Hans tell the Oss ‘Bull’ story, Hans made the daily pattern of every-day-life special, we so looked forward to dropping in to the shop for a visit and seeing him walk in your home ready for lunch or a good story – including “The Bikers” dropped by for a visit …we will deeply miss and forever treasure the precious relationship we had with Hans. We send you our love and deepest sympathy and look forward to being there for you in December.

Hans, We miss you. Your infectious, cheerful smile and positive outlook, greeted us every time we saw you. I wonder if you even realized how many people admired you? We certainly did. There are not many individuals on this planet who have the ability to leave people feeling better and happy about themselves after a long day. You had that ability, that bright spark and natural inner kindness that touched our hearts. The void left in our community is immense without you in it. Our thoughts are with you, your wife and your family. I remember joking with you about putting the Golden Bull on your house. Everytime we drive passed your home now we think of you. You are so saddley missed.

When ever we walked into Hans’ shop there was always wonderful music playing from the radio. We asked Hans the name of the station and tuned it into our car radio. From then on it became known as the ‘Butcher’s Station’. When we listen to the station we will always think of our friend and neighbour. We will truly miss him. Our thoughts are with dear Jean and his family.

From: Paul and Jane Manning
Relation: We are frequent customers.

We were stunned and saddened to read of Han’s passing. For the past 15 years we have enjoyed purchasing so many delicious items from his shop. Not only did we enjoy the food but his suggestions were helpful and often put into practice. No one can provide a better ham!
We will also miss his welcoming “Hello” and gentle smile.

Relation: Friend

To Hans, my wife and I were so saddened to hear of your passing, simply put; shockingly heartbreaking.
To Hans’ family; We knew Hans from his time on Quadra Island. He was a stellar member of our Legion here and a wonderful teammate on our dart team.
Hans and a few friends came to our home just prior to Christmas one year for cheers and general merrymaking. Our drink of choice was rum and eggnog, that is until Hans asked for another “egg and rumnog”.
Each Christmas from here on, I will raise my glass of egg and rumnog and remember my friend.
Hans will never leave this earth until there are no more people to carry him in memory. Peace and love to those closest to him. Our prayers are with you.
