Van Den Heuvel: Johannes Stephanus – the family wishes to announce the tragic passing of Hans on October 21, 2012. Born in Oss, Netherlands on February 7, 1956. Predeceased by his father Leonardus. Lovingly remembered by his family: wife Jean and her children Andrew, Erin and Matthew; mother Wilhelmina; siblings Yvonne, twin brother Leo, Rob and his wife Marie-Claire and their family; Jean’s parents Stan and Mary Oakes as well as numerous other family and his friends from the Royal Canadian Legion in Lake Cowichan and from the Duncan Dart League.
A Celebration of Han’s life will be celebrated in the Centennial Hall, 309 South Shore Road in Lake Cowichan on Saturday November 10, 2012 from 1 to 4 pm. Reverend Vikki Marrs officiating. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, memorial remembrances may be made in the form of a donation to the Charity of ones choice.

We wanted to send our condolences to Hans’s family . We were saddened by the loss to our community.We didn’t know Hans well but enjoyed visiting the shop and buying our meat. Hans was always friendly and kind. He will be missed.

To Hans’s family- have not seen Hans in many a years- but I do very well remember my one and only cousin who lived in Canada. He was the only man I ever knew who could roll a ciggerete in one hand. God bless you Hans.

I can’t believe Hans is gone. It was so much a part of my routine to visit the shop usually every week, have a chat and purchase some meat. As so many people have mentioned, Hans was always so kind and thoughtful and visiting his shop was such a pleasure. To Jean and family I’m so sorry for your loss. I will always remember him.
