Winnifred Harriet Darwin

July 5, 1939 - November 12, 2021

Tribute

With dignity and grace, mom passed on November 12, 2021, into the waiting arms of her beloved husband, surrounded by and
radiating love.

Predeceased by her husband, Henry ( Hank) in 2014. Survived by her children George (Dawn) Hawkins, Laura (Steve) Paterson, Kathy (Darin) Thomas, Theresa Buller, Maureen (Stan) Smith, Julia Darwin, Rob (Leticia) Darwin, her special niece Mary Porter along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren.

Survived also by step-sons David, Daniel, Kevin, Kerry, predeceased by Michael. Survived by brother Jim (Sandra) Vaux, predeceased by her brothers George and Howard Vaux and sister, Evelyn Anderson.

Over the years, mom held various jobs. However being a mother and grandmother was her favourite. For mom and dad, life was always about family. Our home was a beehive of activity, where everyone was always welcomed. For the grandchildren, a trip to granny and grandpas was always an adventure, and never a disappointment. Hosting family gatherings always evolved into epic events. Never putting anyone before the next; we were all treated equally in our own right. Mom worked tirelessly and endlessly to give us the best life possible taking everything in stride.

She was well known in the Cowichan Valley Community for her baking, jams and jellies to which she won an abundance of awards over the years at the Cowichan Exhibition. She was involved along side our father, with the organization and operation of the Somenos Community Association and hall for many, many years, creating joyful memories to all the members and their families, working endlessly on various projects such as Country Dances, Halloween Parties, Christmas Parties and Easter Egg hunts.

Mom had a contagious smile and laugh that brightened up the room, and brought good out in all those in her presence. She loved people and was always up for a friendly chat. Mom had the ability to make you the centre of her universe, if only for a brief moment. Mom spent her final days comforting and preparing her brood. Showing us her bravery, strength, wisdom and courage. “I love you; I will be okay; you will be okay; see you later”.

Special thanks to her daughter in law, Leticia for the affectionate care towards mom in her final days. We wish to thank the medical team who made
moms requested transition possible. By request there will be no service. If one wishes, a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society or the MS society would be greatly appreciated.

“There is no need for tears,
as I am no longer in pain.
I am finally in the arms
of my forever lasting love”
