Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend.  Predeceased by his parents, Bill and Ethel, first wife Jean and son Alvin.  Survived by his second wife, Dodie, daughter Denise Brittain (Kade), sister Joan Burgett, 2 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and families.  Ron started his working life at the Victoria Machinery Depot (VMD) as a machinist apprentice and worked at the trade until 1962.  Moved to Chemainus and started his B.C. Hydro career as a powerhouse mechanic at Georgia Generating Station.    He worked there for 22 years and then moved on to Vancouver Island Terminal (VIT) for two more years before he retired in 1986.  His retirement years with Dodie were spent travelling to various places namely Yuma, Cuba, Australia, and the East coast of Canada.  He also enjoyed two cruises to Alaska and the Panama Canal.  His other past times were fishing and hunting.   Ron spent numerous hours playing in his machine shop doing projects for his friends and also took pride in restoring 3 vintage cars: a 1931 slant window Model A Ford, 1932 Ford 4 door V8 and the final one a 1938 American Bantam Coupe that was completed last year.  He was a member of the Antique Car Club of Canada and the Power Pioneers.  He also was the President of the Westholme School Society at its inception.  Ron enjoyed the many phone calls and visitors who came to the house in the last few weeks of his life.   His cherished his friendships – old and new.  The family would like to extend a thank you to the Home Support Personnel, the Home Care Nurses and to the Chemainus Health Care Centre for their attentive care.  An extended thank you to Jill and Jean Coupe for their support and friendship.   A service will be held at  H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre, 5285 Polkey Road, Duncan, BC on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chemainus Health Care Centre or the Cowichan Hospice Society.
