Steven James Valleau

April 27, 1983 - October 19, 2020

Tribute

Steven passed away peacefully in his sleep from natural causes. He was a kind and thoughtful person with a good sense of humour.

He will be missed immensely by his loving parents Ted and Myrna Valleau, brother Bobby (Beth), Grandfather Howie Valleau, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Steven was born in Duncan BC and lived most of his life in Crofton. He attended high school in Chemainus, and also attended Vancouver Island University.

During his life Steven faced many challenges after being diagnosed with epilepsy at age 10. When he was 20 he had successful brain surgery which allowed him to drive, work and enjoy his life fully. He loved family time and time spent with his group of good friends.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be no gathering at this time. Steven’s ashes will be interred at the Chemainus Cemetery, next to his Grandmother Anne.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the BC Epilepsy Society (bcepilepsy.com).

Ted Myrna and Bobby,
I am so very sorry to hear about your son Steve. He was a memorable student for the way he dealt with his challenges as well as for his incredible good nature. I cherish a banner he carefully crafted for me when I retired expressing his good wishes and admiration. I was especially impressed with the way Steve made his faith in God central to his character.
They sound like hollow words, but your grief will gradually become bearable. I
pray that you will experience God’s peace

Relation: Our daughter, Vanessa went to school with Steven. Steven also did a practicing in caregiving at Providence Farm when I coordinated the Segues program there.

We were surprised & saddened to learn of Steven’s recent passing. He was a kind & thoughtful individual, both soft spoken & quick with a smile. Our sincere condolences to the Valleau family & to Steven’s circle of friends.

From: Oliver Jones
Relation: My son and Stephen were friends in school - both were from Crofton.

I would also like to convey my condolences on Steven’s passing. Steven was a friend of our son, Lewis, during their school years and we would occasionally give him a ride home from youth group. I’m glad to hear that the surgery he had at age 20 was successful and that it opened up opportunities he might now have enjoyed otherwise. I hadn’t seen Steven for a number of years but I remember him as a pleasant young guy and I’m sure his family will treasure their memories of Stephen’s life.

Relation: Friend of Steven’s parents

Ted and Myrna so sorry to hear of the loss of your son. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Sending my love ❤️

From: Trudy Bagnall
Relation: Steve was a security guard where I work at VIU.

My deepest condolences. I only just heard of Steve’s passing today, almost a full year later. Steve and I spoke each day as he checked in at the start of his shift as security at VIU. Through these check-ins I learned a little about Steve and who his family was. His grandmother Anne lived ‘just down the road’ from us near the Chemainus river while I was growing up at what is now the Bald Eagle Campsite. Steve was always so polite and accommodating and was missed once he left CoVal security. My thoughts are with you all as the one year anniversary approaches.
