Sherry Van Wieren (offinga)

March 1, 1929 - October 15, 2018

Tribute

It is with great sorrow that we announce the loss of our mother, Oma and Great Oma, Sherry Van Wieren (Offinga). Sherry passed away during the early hours of October 15th, 2018 at Cowichan District Hospital.

Sherry is predeceased by her husband Don, sister Nelly, brother Bill and son James. She is survived by her 3 sons, Terry (Janette), Roy (Marian) and Ken (Barb) as well as her 7 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren.

Sherry was born on March 1st, 1929 in Bolsward, Friesland, Netherlands. She married her husband Don on June 23, 1953 and immigrated to Canada shortly afterward. They spent 13 years in the Edmonton area before settling in Duncan in 1967. They had a strong connection to the Duncan Christian Reformed Church, meeting many new people and making some lifelong friends. Don worked for Crofton pulp mill and Sherry worked at Ringma’s bakery. She was widowed early on in her life but kept busy with many endeavors. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, took in teachers from the Christian school as boarders, worked at the bakery and helped with and enjoyed her many Grandchildren. She also volunteered for Bibles for Missions and helped with the church preschool.

Sherry always loved to cook, bake, sew and knit and was well known for her tasty treats. She loved the many friends she made while attending social functions and playing card games.

Sherry had strong values and a deep belief in God and the church and family and instilled these values on her sons and her many grandchildren. She loved gathering with her extended family at home or by the lake in the summer. She always loved seeing everyone together as the family grew.

Sherry will be remembered by family, friends and community at a memorial service on October 20th, 2018 at 1:30 at the Duncan Christian Reformed Church, 930 Trunk Road, Duncan, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

From: Kevin Dynna
Relation: I grew up with her sons and spent many a time in heir house

My sincere condolences to the family on her passing. She was a wonderful and caring woman. I spent many times in my teenage years in their house as Ken was a good friend of mine. She always welcomed all Ken’s friends like we were part of the family. She will be missed by all who knew her.

From: Lammie (Emily) Seinen
Relation: Niece

So sorry to hear of your loss! Wish we could have made it to her memorial service! We were spreading my parents ashes that day.
