Tribute

HENDRICKSON: Robert Allan – On Valentine’s day my beloved husband Robert Allan Hendrickson passed away at home after a 9 month fight with cancer. Robert was born August 12, 1946, oldest son of Rudy and Ellie (Leppa) in Duncan and lived in Camp 6 Caycuse logging community with his sister Helen and brother Clark. He will be deeply missed by his wife Katherine; sister Helen (Reo) Curtis; brother Clark (Charlene); niece Tracey (Brian), nephew Byron and his daughter Erin McKay Silvey and her mother Tina Silvey and her son Chad. As well as numerous relatives in British Columbia and Saskatchewan. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing and swimming at Caycuse. After graduating from high school Robert worked in the woods and the shop for a number of years, various camps at Caycuse and Koksilah as well as learning his machinist trade in Vancouver at Hayes Manufacturing and Burrard Iron Works. He worked for Western Forest Industries at Honeymoon Bay in the shop before joining E & M in Duncan. Robert worked for 29 years with Promac then he worked at Metal Tech – Versatile Technology and finally Geo Tech. Robert was also a commercial fisherman for many years. Some of his happiest moments in his life was fishing Johnston Strait for sockeye and chums. He will be missed by Colbi and the boys “Harvey and Rudy” his four legged friends. The family would like to thank all the care and assistance by the volunteer drivers for the Cancer Society for all the trips for treatments at Cowichan District Hospital and Royal Jubilee Cancer Clinic in Victoria. Special thanks to Linda and Janet and the numerous nurses for their comfort and support to the family; Hospice worker Helen for her support for Katherine and all our friends and family who came to visit Robert and Katherine helping through a long and difficult journey. Katherine would like to especially thank Helen, Reo and Clark for all their love and support in the past nine months. A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held at the Silver Bridge Inn, 140 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan BC on Sunday February 22, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. Donations may be made to Robert’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, unit 100-394 Duncan Street, Duncan BC V9L 3W4.

From: Alastair Haythornthwaite
Relation: Co-worker and with Machinists Union

I worked with Bob at Pro Mac Manufacturing for many years. He was an excellent machinist and appreciated by his employer for his skill and good humour.

Like his father, Bob was a solid trade unionist. Bob was a long time member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local Lodges 692 and 456.

Bob loved to talk and I have many fond memories of conversations we had over the years.

Words cannot express the gap his passing leaves on Vancouver Island. I want to express my condolances to Katherine and other members of his family for their loss.
