Ranjit Dhami

October 22, 1965 - June 4, 2022

Tribute

We are deeply saddened to share the loss of our adored Ranj; father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son, and husband. Ranjt Singh Dhami, 56, passed away at home with his family on June 4, 2022 after a defiant two year battle with cancer. Born in Manko, India, Ranj moved to Canada in 1974 and settled in the Cowichan Valley where he spent the majority of his life. Ranj loved sports, politics, traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He had an amazing sense of humour and was a great leader in all aspects of his career, volunteering, and coaching endeavours. He leaves behind his wife Colleen of 34 years, children Bryson (Kaisha) and Jessica, granddaughter Leah, mother Mohinder, three brothers Ranjodh (Maria), Randheir (Andrea), Rajinder (Cecily), one sister Harjinder (Tajinder), as well as, many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A celebration of life will be held in his honour at 12pm on Monday June 13, 2022 at New Life Baptist Church at 1839 Tzouhalem Road. If in attendance, please bring a head covering to be worn during a Sikh prayer.

A heartfelt thank you to Ranj’s medical team, especially Drs. Masuda, Manhas and Adzich, and the Nurses of 2 north, 3 east and the Chemo unit at CDH.

We invite you to donate to BC Cancer Agency or make a blood donation to the Canadian Red Cross in his honour, in place of sending flowers.

I am very saddened to learn that Ranj passed away. He was my son’s coach for a number of years and Ranj’s son was a good friend of my son. Always very kind and pleasant to talk to. Thinking of Colleen and the family and sending them strength to get through the days of grieving.

From: Jay and Donna Smyth
Relation: Former teacher

We hadn’t know Raj was ill and were extremely shocked and saddened to hear of his passing. Our heartfelt condolences to Colleen and his children and family. I had taught Raj in grade 5 and remember him then as a kind, friendly and hard working young guy with a great sense of humour. Meeting years later at pickle ball, he hadn’t changed much and it was fun catching up and playing with and against him as we were constantly teasing each other about who was the better player (Raj definitely was!) Donna and I had also known Colleen as a young neighbour before she and Raj married and we remarked how similar they were as a married couple; both lovely people. Raj made the community, and the wider world, a much better place and he will be sorely missed.
