Tribute

Quinn Mitchell Lauridsen

April 29, 1992 – September 23, 2019

Our sweet boy, Quinn, was born on April 29, 1992 at Vic General, weighing a whopping 10lbs 12oz—the biggest baby at the hospital that week. As a baby, Quinn was the sweetest and happiest human, who loved and trusted everyone and everything. As he grew into toddlerhood and early childhood, he became fixated by learning about dinosaurs and all living animals. Quinn loved his friends. As a child, he cried hardest when any play date was over. It was as though he was never going to have another play date again.

Quinn was the walking, breathing embodiment of unconditional and fierce love. He was the most non-judgmental person you would ever meet; he welcomed everyone who crossed his path with gentle acceptance. He truly saw people for the beauty they possessed, including (and perhaps especially) the ones who society judged most harshly.

Quinn went through his twenty-seven year life putting others’ feelings and needs before his own. He just wanted to make sure that everyone around him was made to feel special. He was the best gift-giver for that reason. He was sensitive and intuitively felt when others needed support.

Quinn was intelligent, musical, hard-working, loyal, sensitive—so sensitive—and loving—oh, so loving.

Quinn was so proud of his work as an iron worker at Holdfast Metalworks and, more recently, in his career with the Canadian Coast Guard. He thrived at work and loved his co-workers, the camaraderie, the support, and the great fun that he had there.

Quinn leaves behind “his Hanny” (his little sister, Hannah), who was his person; his brother, Kieran, who he admired, respected and loved so deeply; and his parents, Craig and Maria, who loved, cherished and adored him even before he was born.

He also leaves all four of his grandparents: Jim and Joan Mitchell (Brentwood Bay) and Kurt and Irene Lauridsen (Kelowna). He loved learning about and celebrating his Danish, Irish, and Scottish heritage.

Also left to mourn is Quinn’s large set of aunts, uncles and cousins. Quinn had a lifetime of happy memories spent with his dad’s side of the family at “Lille Gård,” his grandparents’ farm in Kelowna, and he especially cherished afternoon family dips and dinners at Pease Lake with his mum’s side.

“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”
― Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

The Lauridsen family will be holding a celebration of Quinn’s life on Sunday, October 20th at 2:00 pm at Mellor Hall 7380 Trans Canada Highway, Duncan

Quinn. I remember meeting you at a party years ago… We sat at a computer and were on radioblogclub.com for hours listening to various bands. You got me hooked on TOOL. We used to play guitar together lots too. Man that was great. Oh! And you showed me Fight Club and Trainspotting at your place. Both amazing and horrific movies. I will never forget that. Running into you at the Courts a few months ago and being able to tell you all these in person… Not knowing it was the last time I was ever going to see you.. I’m glad I was able to tell you everything. I’m sorry that you were hurting. You were a true friend and I’ll never forget you. You always had a smile on your face and made time for everyone. Thank you for making the world a better place.

Relation: Friend from high school

I knew Quinn from high school, I spent 2 years in Cowichan Valley and he was very friendly to me in my transition to a new town and new school. More recently in July, I was in Victoria for meetings and on my way out of town, I stopped to get gas and snacks and none other than Quinn recognized me in the same gas station, it has been at least 10 years since we last saw each other. He mentioned he was up on the Coast of BC doing work for the CCG in the most unlikely of places, near my small hometown of Klemtu, BC. It was so good to catch up and chat for 10-15 minutes. My condolences to his family and friends.

Relation: I see you so seldom but I am best friends of your mum and dad, Joan and Jim. I was gutted when I heard of your loss.

My heart just aches for all of you. No words can express the pain I know you are feeling. Memories are what we cherish. Healing seems so distant and yet I pray you will find comfort from all those who love you and from those who love Quinn
I am in close contact with your mum and dad.
