Peter Lowood

February 21, 1939 - May 31, 2015

Tribute

Peter was born on Feb. 21, 1939 at King's Daughter's Hospital in Duncan, B.C..  He passed away peacefully on May 31, 2015 after a lengthy battle with Dementia.  He was the kindest, most honest, easy going person and an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend.  He was predeceased by his parents, Josie & Jack Lowood, brother John in 2007 and his son, Dean in 2009. He is survived by his loving wife Judy of 53 years, his wonderful Daughter, Kim, who he adored and her husband Ken Gillam. Also his five Grandchildren who he was so very proud of and enjoyed so much, Brighton, Grayson & Kinsey Lowood and Ben & Riley Gillam, and his sisters-in-law Peggy Dickson & Pearl Lowood and nephews Greg and Jim Lowood and his niece Susan Dickson (John). Pete started his working career as an Instrument Man in the survey department  of the Provincial Government. He & his longtime friend, Jim Roome, surveyed the road from Port Clements to Masset in Haida Gwaii.  He then got his Diesel Mechanic ticket at the Institute of Technology in Edmonton & worked for Hayes Palmer Motors in Duncan.  He stayed in the automotive business for a few years then went back to surveying. He worked for Bernard White, Mike Hanson & Dick Wright. The last 20 years of his working career were spent at The Municipality of North Cowichan in the Utilities Department, retiring in 1999. He then started a picture framing business “for something to do”-“Pete's Perfect Picture Phraming”. He did that until 2007 when his illness forced him to stop.  He was a member of the Maple Bay Yacht Club since 1952.  He was Junior Commodore in 1959 and Senior Commodore 1979-1981.  He enjoyed many sports including sailboat racing and cruising, bowling, curling skiing and golfing.  For many years he belonged to Mt. Brenton Golf Club in Chemainus and even managed to get a hole in one.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.   Thank you to Dr. Roy Gilbert, Dr. Manhas, Dr. Fritsch, the S.O.R.T Team, the Altzheimer Society, Chemainus Health Care and The Lodge on 4th for his wonderful care.  A Celebration of his life will be held at the Maple Bay Yacht Club on Tues. June 9th from 2 pm -4 pm.

Jude: So sorry to hear of your loss of Pete. Hard to believe that a relationship could last to long! and I’m sure you wish it could have been longer. I don’t think any of the bunch we hung out with did so well as you and Pete did. I’m sure you have many wonderful memories to hang on to. I wish you well and am sure you have many friends to see you through this difficult time. Love, Lynne
