Patricia Dennison

March 19, 1951 - July 20, 2022

Tribute

With broken hearts, the family of Patricia Lyn Dennison (Gilmour) announce her passing on July 20, 2022 at the Cowichan Hospice House on Vancouver Island at the age of 71.  Pat was born on March 19, 1951 in Regina, SK to Helen and Roy Gilmour.

She spent most of her childhood years growing up in Mossbank, SK.  In 1969, shortly after delivering her valedictorian speech at her graduation, she married Larry, the love of her life.  In 1972 Pat and Larry moved to the Zenith district East of Assiniboia to farm with Larry’s father.  In 1978 they purchased the family farm.  While raised as a “small town girl” Pat’s hard work ethic lent itself well to life on the farm.  She grew a large garden and learned how to do canning so she could enjoy her garden harvest year-round.  She drove the grain truck on the farm and was able to unload the combine “on the go”.  Never afraid of a challenge, once the kids were grown, Pat took office administration thru SIAST in Regina.  In addition to helping on the farm she then worked for several years in Assiniboia at Farm Credit Canada.  Her early retirement was spent living at Thompson Lake Regional Park.  Pat was an avid golfer and has done many rounds of golf with friends and family.  In the summer Pat often had a house full of young relatives spending time with her at the lake.  Those young relatives included her four grandchildren.  She was very proud of each of them, and their achievements.

During winter Pat resided in Mercedes, Texas.  Through the stories she has shared with family it is obvious she cherished the many hours spent with her “Winter Texan” Llano Grande friends both on and off the golf course.  In 2015 Pat moved with Larry to Arbutus Ridge, BC spending the summers on Vancouver Island while continuing to winter in Texas.  Pat was an avid reader, often having more than one book on the go at any one time.  She loved a good game of cards, a pastime that started as a child playing crib and canasta with her two siblings.  She was a lifelong learner and was never afraid to try new things.  In her younger days she enjoyed curling and skiing.  Stained glass, mah-jong and bird watching were some of her more recent retirement adventures.  Pat and Larry enjoyed travelling.  They have seen 44 of the 50 US States and have been to 28 different countries.  Her favorite vacations included those shared with her kids and grandkids.

Pat will be lovingly remembered by her husband Larry of 53 years, daughter Lori (Marcel), son Jason (Dana), brother Bob, sister Barb (Mark) as well as her sister-in-law Jeannie (Ken).  She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren Jaden, Jaret, Jenna and Teagan as well as several nieces and nephews.  Pat was predeceased by her parents Roy and Helen Gilmour, her in-laws Earl and Winnie Dennison as well as her bother-in-law David and his wife Faye Dennison.

A Memorial and a private family inurnment at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Assiniboia, SK will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in Memory of Pat may be made to Cowichan Hospice House, 3122 Gibbons Rd. Duncan, BC V9L 1G2        www.cowichanhospice.org

A heartfelt thanks to Pat’s medical team.  Especially Dr. Masuda and Dr. Adzich, nurses of the chemo unit at CDH as well as the nurses, staff and volunteers at Cowichan Hospice House.

I had the pleasure of knowing Pat thru her beautiful daughter Lori. Having not had many opportunities to see her often I quickly learned she was someone who loved living and loved her life. She was probably the most peaceful person I have ever met and I wished to have her grace one day. She was a gift to anyone who knew her as she accepted all those she spent time with. I loved watching her with her Grandkids she loved them dearly.

Relation: Close friend of her daughter Lori

So sorry for your loss. I remember many sleepovers at the farm with Lori throughout our high school years. You mom had a great laugh, was an amazing cook and always took pride in her house and yard. xo

Larry – we are so blessed to have had you and Pat as not only friends but also neighbours. The time we have spent together we cherish and look forward to spending time with you when you are ‘home’ or if we get out that way. You two were the first ‘trespassers’ we met 😉 when we moved to the lake and it turned into a wonderful friendship. Pat was truly remarkable and a beautiful person and truly lived. We will really miss her. Hugs and much love.

Pat was a kind, generous, creative soul. She was so much fun to be with and I will miss sharing artistic ideas with her. It was a pleasure to be one of her “glass gals” .
