Tribute

Passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Cairnsmore Place, Duncan BC, just short of his 92nd Birthday.  Pete was born in Drumheller, Alberta and grew up in the Cowichan Valley.  He joined the RCAF in 1941 as a pilot and was discharged from the service as a Flight Lieutenant September 1945.  He was active in sports, a member of the Cowichan Golf and Country Club, Duncan Curling Club, Duncan Cowichan Chamber of Commerce, the King’s Daughters’ Hospital, the Zenith Gyro Club and the Victoria Chapter of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers.

Pete was involved in Real Estate, insurance, mortgages, an appraiser and co-owner of H.W. Dickie Limited for over 20 years.

Pete is survived by his beloved wife Elaine, and his 3 children, Jim (Suzanne), Janice (Bruce) Leaman, Valerie (Bruce) Anderson, and his grandchildren Wendy Anderson, Kathy (Neil) Bouma, Lori (Kevin) Wright, Trevor (Nicole) Prest, and Ryan Leaman.  He delighted in his great grandchildren; Alexis & Carter Bouma, Will and Emma Wright, and Luke, Sage and Jesse Prest.  Pete is also survived by his sister-in-law Jo-Ann Prest and several nieces and their families.  Pete was predeceased by his sister Dorothy (Gordon) Stone, and brother Doug Prest.

A memorial service will be held at the Duncan United Church on Friday December 14th 2012 at 1pm.  In lieu of flowers donations to Cairnsmore Place or the Canadian Diabetes Society would be greatly appreciated.  The family would once again like to extend their deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff at Cairnsmore Place for their tender loving care of Pete, husband, Dad, Granddad and Great Granddad.

I know from experience how deep a loss this is. I still miss talking to my Mom every day. I hope you all laugh and cry together while sharing your wonderful memories of Pete.

From: Janis (Hanham) Baker
Relation: Family friend

Dear Elaine and Family, I was very sad to see that Pete had passed away. When I was 16 he offered me my first job after school and on Saturday mornings at Dickies. Working there I met many great people and enjoyed the work. I also have been fortunate to work with another of your family – with Nicole Boucher at Bonner.

Elaine, this must be a difficult time for you but I know you will be surrounded by family to help you get through this. Take good care!

From: Sandra Stephens
Relation: good friend's daughter

Dear Elaine,
I am thinking of you at this sad time. Mom would be so surprised & sad to know of Pete’s passing.
Hugs to you. Sincerely,
Sandra Stephens (Gertrude’s daughter)

Hello Prest Family: My husband Bob and I wanted to pass along our condolences to the Family of Norman Prest (“Pete” as we knew him). I worked with Pete and Valerie at HW Dickie Ltd. and he was a gentlemen’s gentleman who always had a smile on his face. I know he was a man who was deeply loved by his family and friends and all of us at Oakcrest Strata. Blessings, Colleen and Bob Marsel

From: Christine VanDale

“Smiling Pete” always happy, always polite and always a joy to have him around. So sad to have to say Good Bye to such a great man. It was my honour to serve “Smiling Pete” a man I will never forget. Thank you
