Mindi Howatt

April 22, 1955 - April 1, 2017

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce  the unexpected passing of Mindi, after a brief but fierce battle with amyloidosis.

She is survived by her loving husband Gord, brother Dennis and sister Allison (Dave). Children Ian (Jamie) and Leah (Mark) and granddaughters Alyssa and Hailey.

Mindi was born in Vancouver and grew up in Coquitlam.  She married her high-school sweetheart  in 1975 and moved to Duncan in 1979. Mindi enjoyed their small hobby farm and raising their two children. Mindi  decorated for every occasion and started many family traditions that made everyday life special. She transformed the family home into a beautiful and cozy place full of memories.

She worked hard as a house keeper to earn enough money to start her business Magic & More. Mindi loved the arts and was extremely talented with costume design and manufacturing. Many people in the valley wore dance and theatre costumes made by Mindi. Her talent led her to the movies where she traveled frequently to New York, and even was fortunate to travel to parts of Europe. She often spoke fondly about her adventures with her friends in New York.

Mindi’s first love was her family. She would talk with pride about her children. She was so looking forward to Ian’s wedding in November and welcoming Jamie into our family. Hardly a day would pass without a phone call to Leah for an update on Alyssa and Hailey.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the family home on May 13, 2017. For further information or to share a story or memory please email mindicelebrationoflife@gmail.com

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mindi was loved by many and her passing leaves a huge hole in our hearts.

You left us beautiful memories

your love is still our guide

and though we cannot see you

your always by our side.

Mindy is a great loss. Her contribution for me is her undaunting energy and ability to move onward through some rough times. A dynamo indeed. Love and heartfelt condolences to Gord and family

Though I have not been able to accept the loss of a true, trusted and valued friend, my heart goes out to mindis family. What a legacy you have left behind, your beloved family and your artistic nature…able to turn anything be it cooking, sewing, etc into a masterpiece. I’m shocked and heartbroken but suspect you have been my guardian angel here in cabo. For that I thank you. We met and became fast friends, same likes and similar health issues..all it took was a phone call to make each other laugh with our silly, crazy sense of humour. Mindi, I wasn’t there for you at the end and I can’t be there for your celebration of life as I’ll be flying home that day. Forgive me. This is not a goodbye but rather a lapse in time so have a Caesar waiting beside your glass of wine for me..I shall miss you my friend, love always, dar
