Marilyn Fennell

May 28, 1954 - June 12, 2010

Tribute

Marilyn Patricia Fennell
April 28,1954 to June 12, 2010

Marilyn was born to Jean and John Fennell and raised in Montreal with her sister, Maureen. Marilyn always wanted to be a teacher and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree, specializing in Bio-Physical Education from Concordia University. She then went on to obtain her Master of Arts at Western University in London, Ontario. She taught at Fanshawe College for a couple of years before moving to BC.
Marilyn was very active in athletics throughout her life. She played varsity Hockey, Badminton and Basketball in University. She taught tennis, enjoyed having her own boat, and was an avid golfer.
Upon moving to BC, Marilyn became very interested in working with youth and found that her interest in sports was helpful in connecting with hard to reach kids. She was very skilled, incredibly patient, always fun and fearless and became very highly regarded in her work.
She was forced to leave her career when she developed cancer.
She is predeceased by her parents and her sister. She leaves behind her partner of 20 years, Marilyn McManus, her dog, Winston, her dear friend since childhood, Annabel Kirby, Janet Guthrie, her niece April Gagne, in Arizona, her extended family in Ontario and Quebec as well as many other friends and colleagues. She will be dearly missed.
Special thanks to Drs. Moulaison, Moran, Nielsen, Berrang and Anderson and to the Cowichan nurses, Deb and Joanne.
All are welcome to a Celebration of Life at St Barnabas, Anglican Church at Friday, June 18 at 3 pm, 1525 Begbie St. Victoria. Reception to follow.

Marilyn is a kind soul whom will be greatly missed, I was lucky enough to have her as my co-worker/mentor and most of all friend. My time with Marilyn has made me a better man from which I will always grateful.

From: John and Marie Halliwell
Relation: neighbour

To Marilyn McManus. We wish to offer our sincere condolences. Though we didn’t know Marilyn very well – we know that we were pleased to have her as a neighbour. She seemed to have a zest for life and it is regretful that her life was cut short.

From: Suzanne Simpson
Relation: Former co-worker

I worked with Marilyn for many years at Youth Empowerment Society. She was very committed to and really cared about the youth she worked with. She was a great team player and colleague. She will be greatly missed by the youth, families and professionals of this community. My sympathies to her family, friends and coworkers.

From: Michelle Bergeron & Al Beattie
Relation: she was a client and a co worker

I was always attracted to Marilyns kind beautiful soul, it just felt good to be around her. She was in and out of my life a few times and i’m saddened to think not again. I’m sure she left such goodness with many. She did a lot to help our troubled kids for which I greatly admired. Thanks Marilyn.
