Maria Luisa Lisa Dilalla

February 26, 1929 - March 18, 2012

DiLALLA, Lisa (nee Maria Luisa Iannidinardo)
(February 26, 1929 – March 18, 2012)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother at the age of 83 after several months of poor health. Lisa was predeceased by her husband Michele in 1991 and her youngest son John in 2010. She is survived by her eldest son Joe (Kathy), daughters Yeta and Angela (Mark); seven grandchildren Michael J (Jessie), Laura (Dan), Michael W, Dylan, Riley, Wyatt and Sophia and six great-grandchildren Benjamin, Judah, Rebekah, Aaron, Elias and Lydia. Lisa was born in Casacalenda, Campobasso, Italy, the oldest of eleven children. She immigrated to Canada in 1953 to join her husband and they joyfully worked together raising their children and sponsoring brothers and sisters from Italy. Lisa and Mike resided in Cobble Hill until 1989. Through the years, Mom always enjoyed her family gatherings with lots of good homemade Italian food, homegrown vegetables from her garden, homemade wine, stories of the past in Italy and early days in Canada. For the last twenty-three years, Lisa lived in Duncan and made many new acquaintances and special friendships through her church activities including the Catholic Women’s League, Widow’s Support Group, Basic Christian Community and other groups including Flora House, yoga, bowling, bocce and the Italian Club. Lisa shared her baking and cooking skills with her family and friends and was seldom without a supply of her famous Italian pizzelle cookies. Her family expresses sincere thanks to the medical staff at the Cowichan District Hospital for all their care and kind attention to Mom.
Prayers will be offered in St. Edward’s Roman Catholic Church, 2085 Tzouhalem Road, Duncan, B.C., on Thursday, March 22, at 6:00 p.m. Mass for the Christian Burial of the Dead will be celebrated on Friday, March 23, at 9:00 a.m. Reverend Father Alfredo Monacelli, Celebrant. Entombment follows at 3:00 p.m. at Ocean View Burial Park, 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, B.C.

From: Lee Hopps
Relation: Flora House

Our group would like to send our condolences to Lisa’s family. She was a valued member of our Tuesday group at Flora House. Lisa would often entertain us with stories of her early life in Italy, and bring pictures of her beloved family. We will miss her laughter and of course those wonderful cookies that she would share with all of us. She will be missed.

Relation: friend of Kathy and Joe

Kathy and Joe, we would just like to pass on our love and thoughts on the loss of Joe’s Mom. While we have lost regular contact you are often in our thoughts and stories. Hugs from us both.

From: Angela Shaw
Relation: Daughter

Countless words are needed to express the sorrow and dismay at losing Mom so quickly and unexpectedly. I said to Mom on my last visit, “I’m going home now, I love you, I will miss you and I will be back to see you”. Our next visit was not to be. I believe Mom is in heaven with Dad and in the loving arms of our Lord. Every day that passes I pray that her good wishes and hopes for all of her family and friends will be fulfilled.
