Tribute

Malcolm McLeod McIver Smith

2 October 1944 – 31 March 2024

The family of Malcolm is sad to announce his unexpected death that occurred peacefully at home. Born in Edinburgh Scotland, he grew up in Maillardville and lived most of his life in Cobble Hill and Crofton BC. He is survived by the love of his life Dianna (Di) (Rozell), and will be missed by son Shawn Williamson (Catherine), daughter Allison Quist, son Tyler (Kara), grandchildren Steven, Rhiannon, Keifer, Riley, Andrew, Sarah, Kirin, Lauren, and Cole. He is also survived by sisters-in-law Ginny White and Deanna, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents William and Georgina (Cormack) (Seaton), and brother Vincent.

Malcolm served in the Royal Canadian Navy where he sailed as a Marine System Engineer or ‘stoker’ on both coasts. He also worked at the Pulp and Paper Mill in Crofton as a Stationary Engineer and Millwright for over 30 years. In his later life he travelled throughout BC and Alberta as an independent Millwright.

Malcolm served his community as a Malahat Lion, Mason, and Shriner and had a well-earned reputation as a hard-working and dependable volunteer.

Malcolm’s memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved and knew him. His life will be celebrated at a funeral service at the HW Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre in Duncan BC on Saturday 13th of April, 2024 at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Malahat Lions. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hwwallacebc.com

From: Mike Bieling
Relation: Fellow member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. 134 (Malahat)

My sincere condolences on your family’s loss. Royal Canadian Legion Br. 134 (Malahat) informed me of Malcolm’s passing, as I maintain the branch’s “Lest We Forget” memorial to its past members. I also maintain the database of veterans’ burials in the cemeteries of the Cowichan Valley that guides the Veterans’ Remembrance Cross placements each November. If Malcolm is to be laid to rest in a Cowichan Valley cemetery, I’d be honoured to add him and include him in our future commemorations as well. Please have a family member contact me in this regard.

Relation: Grew up with Allie, his daughter

Sending love and condolences to the family.
