Tribute

Madeleine Marie Bremner (nee Pagé)

March 26, 1930- November 20, 2018

Oh the places she has been! Travel, family and friends, these were a few of her favorite things.

Mom’s nick name was go-go granny for she never seemed to stop. Whether she was out with friends, Sunday dinners with family, traveling the globe or meeting new people, mom was at her happiest. Mom loved to be a part of the goings on in the city, cultural events, conferences, concerts and festivals. She was keen to try new things like learning to ride a bike and skate in her forties. As a teacher, mom touched many lives; teaching her first class at the age of 17. A lifelong student of the arts and culture she earned her BA at the age of 48. She embraced her French Canadian heritage, traveling to France, speaking french to her children, being part of francophone groups wherever she lived and encouraging others that wanted to learn French.  Her faith sustained her through the tough times and she rejoiced in the Lord right until the end. She surrendered to her Lord and Savior, going gently to His Kingdom where she is reunited with her Husband David Charles Bremner of almost 50 years, her daughters Anne Wentzell  and Susan Bremner as well as her parents Yvonne and Alphonse Page, her sisters Monique, Georgette, Cecile, Betty and brothers Fernand, and Jean Paul. Mom is survived by her daughters Lorill Jones and Francine Skelly (Collin) grandchildren, Tyler (Carly), Kyle (Samantha) Sara and Jack, great grandchildren Abigail, Clark and Henry. She will be missed by her sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews along with many friends. Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Cowichan Regional Hospital for their care, they were mom’s Angels. Thank you to her neighbors and friends, you all brought such joy to her time in Duncan, she was blessed to know you. Burial service will be in the spring of 2019 in Ottawa. Date to be announced.

Adieu, dit le renard. Voici mon secret. Il est très simple : on ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,Le Petit Prince

“Goodbye,” said the fox. “And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.”

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince

Reception to be held at H. W. Wallace December 1st, Sat. 1-3p.m.

5285 Polkey Road Duncan B.C.

Lorill and Francine, Our deepest sympathy to you in the loss of your Mom. Thinking of you at this sad and difficult time. She is now reunited with your Dad, Sue and Anne.

From: Kelly Robertson
Relation: friendly visitor thru "Better at Home"

I was Madeleine’s friendly visitor for a little over a year. We shared some good laughs, talked about life in general and I was happy to help her with some day to day needs like groceries, doctors appointments or a visit to the library. Once I beat her at scrabble and she let me know( tactfully) next time we got together, she’d rechecked her adding and had in fact won. I figured as much:) I’ll miss her. My sincere condolences to her family.

From: Patricia Swerdfeger
Relation: Friend in Ottawa

I was shocked and saddened to hear of Madeleine’s passing. She was a dedicated teacher that I got to know when we both worked at Devonshire School in Ottawa. I send my heartfelt sympathy to her family.

Our sympathies to the Bremner family on your loss.
We knew both Madeline and Dave as neighbours on Compton Ave.
They were both wonderful people!

My sympathy and prayers to her family. Madeleine was a faithful member of the Cowichan Valley Club of the Canadian Federation of University Women as long as she was able. We appreciated her enthusiasm and support.

From: Dawn Goodridge
Relation: Was a client who became a friend!

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Your mum was such a wonderful lady. I did not get back to see her in Duncan after the passing of my own grandparents as I simply have not been able to bring my heart to go back but I did enjoy the times we got together there and in Ottawa. God speed, Madeleine.

From: Margaret Christie Misener
Relation: Friend

My deepest sympathy to Lorill, Francine and families. I met Madeleine in the early 70’s when I worked with Lorill at the Library. She was a very friendly and welcoming to me when I first moved to Ottawa.
