Lorne Cochrane

May 9, 1946 - December 24, 2022

Tribute

COCHRANE, Lorne
It is with absolute heartbreak and devastation to say goodbye to my beloved husband, Lorne Cochrane. Lorne was born in Toronto, Ontario on May 9, 1946 and moved to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1976. After a very long and courageous battle with numerous medical issues from 1995 to the present and admitted to many hospitals in Vancouver and Vancouver Island, Lorne survived all the others until he recently picked up the COVID-19 virus. This virus also impacted his other organs. Lorne passed away on the morning of December 24, 2022 at the Cowichan District Hospital.
Lorne is survived by his loving wife, Cecilia, of 43 years, his brothers-in-law and families (Ronald Yee, Freeman Yee, Richard/Judy Yee, Connal/June Yee, Daniel/Sai Yee and Keith Nailer). He is also survived by many nephews and nieces (too many to mention) and great nephews and great nieces (too many to mention). Lorne also leaves behind his extended families in various cities and towns in Ontario, adopted family in Mill Bay, special friends in Nova Scotia, Rochester-NY, various cities and towns in British Columbia and a large circle of friends in Canada (British Columbia, Ontario), United States, England and Australia.
The best years of Lorne’s life was spent at the cabin at Anderson Lake, B.C. Lorne also loved spending time boating, fishing, camping and being out in the fresh air and surrounded by nature. He also enjoyed hiking with friends very much when we moved to Vancouver Island in 1999. Lorne also enjoyed all types of sports. He enjoyed watching these on TV at home and also when he was not too sick to do so in various hospitals.
Lorne has been in so many hospitals over the years and we would like to thank all the medical professionals who took care of Lorne (too many to mention) during all his hospital stays and also those who were in contact with Lorne at home. A special thank you to the Occupational Therapists, Sue and Allison, and all the caregivers who attended at our home to take care of Lorne’s medical needs as well.

May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always on your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face, the rains fall soft upon your fields
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
Love leaves a memory no one can steal.

In keeping with Lorne’s wishes there will be no service.

Cecilia: so sorry to hear of Lorne’s passing. He was ill for many years and when we lost touch after your move to the Island I often thought about the both of you and how you were doing. Your love, care and vigilance gave Lorne a long life despite the many challenges he faced. Do take care of yourself and whenever you come to Vancouver, we should try to get together. Wishing you the very best in the future.

Relation: Neighbour and friend

Cecilia, we were very saddened to learn of Lorne’s passing. It was a very hard battle that you both fought courageously for so many, many years. The heartbreak and stress must have been insurmountable at times but your love and dedication to each other shone through . Thank you so much for all the effort you put in to making the Properties neighbourhood a friendly place to be and it was a privilege for us to know both of you.

We hope you can find some peace knowing you did everything worldly possible for Lorne and how lucky he was to have you in his life.
