July 18, 1949 - December 21, 2018

Tribute

WEBB, Edward (Ted) George
July 18, 1949 – December 21, 2018
This gentle, lovely man has passed after a 3
year battle Myotonic Dystrophy. He was
& is Antoinette’s great love. Ted passed
surrounded with love, by his wife,
children, close family and
dear friends.
Ted was born and raised in
Duncan, a naturel athlete Ted
played (pitched) baseball from
little league to his late teens,
played high school football
with the Cowichan Timbermen,
competed in tennis & played
badminton, volleyball and
basketball. Later in life Ted played
flag football and old timers hockey.
Ted graduated from the University of
Victoria in 1973 & started his teaching
career in Kitamat B.C. with his first wife Gill.
After 2 years Ted returned to the Cowichan Valley and taught high school
at Cowichan Senior Secondary until his retirement in 2009. Ted received
his Masters Degree for Administrative Curriculum in 1995, at Gonzaga
University in Washington State.
Throughout Ted’s tenure as a teacher he spent countless hours & weekends
coaching basketball (senior boys team). His passion was basketball and
coaching. Ted started the summer basketball hoop camp with the goal of
igniting a love of the game in young players and also as a very successful
fund raiser for the team.
As a young teacher, Ted’s resemblance to the actor Tom Selick, earned
him the nick name among his students of “Magnum P.E.” much to his
embarrassment.
Left to grieve for this wonderful man is his devoted and loving wife
Antoinette, sons Tony (Sarah), Geoffrey and daughter Caitlin (Bryce), his
sister Irene Deschene (Al), grand children Taylor and Adalynn, Ted’s many
beloved nieces and nephews and dear friends and students.
Ted was pre-deceased by his parents Arthur and Marguerite; his sisters Judy
Fisher (Roger), and Linda Shupe (Jim).
The Webb family would like to extend our heartfelt and sincere appreciation
for the tireless and compassionate care Ted received from all the staff on the
2nd floor of Cowichan District Hospital. A special, thank you to Dr. Burger
who cared for Ted throughout his illness, with kindness and support. Also,
a very special thank you Dr. Masuda and the palliative team who guided
us thru Ted’s last days. A thank you to all the home support workers who
assisted with Ted’s care in the months before his death.
Thank you to ‘the nieces” – Thank you and to our dear friends Maureen & Jim
Dias, Thank you to Julia who flew from Germany to be at his side, Thank you
to my special neighbors at Meadowoods thank you.
In lieu of flowers a donation to the Myotonic Dystrophy Association or the
Duncan Hospice Foundation would be appreciated.
Celebration of Ted’s life will be held on January 27, 2019, 1:00 pm @ Mellor
Hall in Duncan, BC.

Words can not express our sadness hearing the loss of a wonderful man, friend and neighbour! Ted’s presence will be sadly missed by anyone who touched his life. I (Dave) grew up next door to the Webb’s, and had many enjoyable times around the kitchen table!!! Memories that will never be forgotten. Our condolences to the Family at this sad time…keep the cherished memories close to your hearts! Love, Lynne & Dave

From: Jacqueline MacKenzie ( Kloosterman )
Relation: He was one of my teachers at high school

I was sad to learn of Mr. Webb’s passing.
My heartfelt condolences go out to his family and friends.
Thanks to him, ” Community Recreation” was my favorite class in high school. As a lifeguard/ swim instructor, he recruited me to help teach alot of the material in the class… swimming, first aid, and lots of fun pool activities to get students comfortable in the water. Through his support and confidence in me, it really taught me to believe in myself and my abilities. Such an important lesson that stuck with me!
Rest in Peace Mr.Webb. You truly made a positive difference in my life, thank you ❤️

Relation: Co-worker

Ted was a colleague, mentor, and friend. I am a much “richer” person after having Ted in my life. You made a difference, rest well “Magnum”!

From: Joni Johal

Condolences to the Webb family and the Cowichan Valley for the loss of a great man who cared and gave so much to the students and community. I met Ted through basketball many years ago and had the privilege of supplying him and his teams with apparel and equipment, we’ll miss you my friend.
