Denis Eugene Martel

October 21, 1950 - October 16, 2018

Tribute

MARTEL, Denis Eugene. Denis was born October 21, 1950 in North Battleford, Saskatchewan to Blanche and Telseford Martel.  He peacefully passed in his sleep in Victoria, BC October 16, 2018.  Denis is lovingly remembered by his wife of 44 years Carol, his two boys Len and Chris (Debbie), his three precious granddaughters Alexa, Chelsea and Courtney, his brother El, sister Aline and many friends and relatives. Denis’s family was the utmost  importance to him and he lived and cared deeply for them. He was extremely well known and respected by the Lake Cowichan community where he resided and was avid wildlife conservationist advocating countless hours to Wilderness Watch and many other activities such as his favorite hockey team.

He loved to spend time watching the Montreal Canadiens and worked many years at the Youbou sawmill. As one of the habs most loyal fans, the town could always hear Denis when he was watching the habs and they scored.

hDenis will be dearly missed by his family and community but will never be forgotten and always loved.  Go Habs Go!

Dear Carol and family. My condolences. I worked with Denis for a few shifts at Youbou shortly after high school. He was a very nice fellow and I was very much impressed with his vigorous approach to physical work. We had a lot of fun those few days picking bark from the chipper feed.

Carol, Lenny, Chris and family. We are so sorry and saddened for your loss. We just saw Denis recently and the first thing he did was ask how the kids were doing. Also of course how the elk situation was up our way. That was Denis, always concerned about someone else. Please know we are thinking of all of you.

Dear Carol….I am very sad to hear of Dennis’s passing…..but heaven has gained one great Frenchman! My fond memories are mostly of his involvement in our choir at the St Lois de Montfort Church as an awesome guitar player for all our folk masses. And for accompanying me as a soloist at many weddings and funerals. He was always a happy conversationalist whenever we bumped into each other…I’m sure you will all miss him terribly but I’m also sure you have the lmany happy memories as well. Thinking of you and your family❤

Denis Martel was a passionate crusader who was always willing to help in the fight to conserve and protect our natural heritage. Denis assisted the Conservation Officer Service almost daily and will be greatly missed by local officers and Ministry staff. I can’t thank Denis enough for his countless hours of hard work patrolling the backwoods and education of valley residents on all matters of wildlife conservation. My deepest condolences to the Martel family for their loss of such a great man and role model.

Carol, I will always remember Denis. He was a shining person, so full of the joy of life, his love for you and his family, and everything and everyone he cared about. He even tried once to teach me the Schottische at a dance, a hopeless task but it was a kind thought. When he drove me out to see His Elk he was so devoted to their safety and health, you’d have thought they also were his own children. Now, he lives on in you and your kids and grandkids. And when you go out into his favourite woods, I bet you’ll feel he’s close by. Lots of Love, Lexi.
