Tribute
In loving memory of Daphne Mae Ormond
January 15th, 1932 – June 20, 2024
Daphne passed peacefully at age 92 with family at her side.
Daphne (Dee) was born in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1932 to Tom and Ethel Oxland. At 16, her family moved “out west” to Victoria. She left home to study Home Economics in Vancouver at UBC. In 1952, she graduated, and worked as a dietician at Vancouver General Hospital. Daphne met her husband, a young Englishman, William (David) Ormond at a YMCA dance in Vancouver. Marriage followed a brief courtship in 1957. On their honeymoon across Europe, they both discovered a love of travelling.
Daphne and David put their travel dreams on hold to raise a family with three children in West Vancouver. Upon retiring from property management in the early 1990s, they resumed their passion for travelling the world. It was in Ajijic, Mexico, they found their retirement paradise. Daphne remained in her beloved lakeside community until 2019.
Predeceased by David (2003) and eldest daughter, Trudy (2021), Daphne is survived by her daughter, Wendy (James) and son, John (Vivian), sister, Olive, and brother, Tom. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chloe, Emma, and Sofia, with whom she wished she could have spent more time.
The family thanks Dr. Kokotillo and Dr. Tooms for their excellent care, and, to the staff at Oceanview Seniors Manor (Ladysmith) and Woodgrove Seniors Manor (Nanaimo) for their kindness and attentiveness.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the Family Caregivers of BC.
A celebration of life is planned at the HW Wallace chapel, 2853 Roberts Rd, Duncan on Friday, August 2nd, 2024, at 11am.
