Angus Branting

July 28, 1933 - August 29, 2016

Tribute

Angus Ossian Branting passed away peacefully, but unexpectedly on August 29, 2016 after a short stay in Cowichan District Hospital.  He was born in Vancouver on July 28, 1933 to Oscar Branting, from Munsala Finland, and Edit Måtar Branting, from Overjeppo Finland.   He was predeceased by sister Marlene in 2008 (Alan Hudson) and brother Ralph (Rosemary) in 2013.  He is survived by brother Herb (Gailene) and many nieces and nephews.  He was two days short of being married for 59 years to the love of his life Evanne Neal.  They raised four children in their house in Duncan including daughter Colleen – Jeffrey (Ashley), Kirsten & Alison Gellein; and sons David; Randy (Kathleen) –  Joran & Danielle; and Gordon (Harminder) – Marcus, Lucas & Nicolas.

As a teenager, he worked in the woods around Cowichan Lake, first as a Whistlepunk, and progressed to logging truck owner/operator, before buying Quality Box, where he went every day until the week before he died.  He shared his exceptional work ethic with his children through Saturday maintenance on his logging truck, and later at the mill.  He was passionate about watching his children and grandchildren in sporting activities including soccer, ball and ice hockey, fastball and baseball, and curling in town and all around BC.  He won “World Championships” at the Western Truck Drivers Rodeo a couple of times, and belonged to the Western Independent Log Haulers Association, Hoo Hoos, and Duncan Curling Club.  He will be missed by the many friends that he had lunch with at the Pioneer House, and coffee with at A&W and McDonalds.  They enjoyed many motorhome trips, and vacations to Yankee Stadium, Wrigley Field, Mexico, Hawaii, and especially Skagit!

Please join us in a Celebration of Life at the Eagles Hall on Boys Road in Duncan at 1pm on September 17th.   No flowers please.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Cowichan Sportsplex or the Cowichan District Hospital Auxiliary.
