Tribute

Alastair Murray

January 28th 1937 – April 4th 2010

It is with deep sadness the family of Alastair Murray announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, April 4th, 2010. He will be deeply missed by Helen, his life long love, best friend and wife of 49 years, his children, Tracey, Fraser (Dawn), Fiona (Alan), his beloved grandchildren, Jason, Shona, Cameron, Alexander, James and extended family, Joey, Julie, Matthew, Brianne, Cheryl and Dorothee, as well as his brother Stewart in Scotland and numerous nieces and nephews in Scotland and Canada and many friends. Alastair was born in Aberdeen Scotland, January 28th 1937. He, Helen and Tracey immigrated to Canada in 1964. They settled in the Cowichan Valley where Fraser and Fiona were born. Alastair worked at Crofton Mill for 32 years before his retirement in 1997. Above all, he enjoyed, family, cooking Sunday dinners, working in and enjoying his garden, playing cricket, doing crosswords, his cats, reading, and most especially watching his grandchildren play.

In my garden there is a large place for sentiment. My garden of flowers is also my garden of thoughts and dreams. The thoughts grow as freely as the flowers, and the dreams are as beautiful. ~Abram L. Urban

In your remembrance of Alastair, he would have been pleased if you were to plant something that you loved in your garden.

Thank you for the care given by Dr. Pullan, Dr. Thompson, Dr. Nielsen and the nurses from 2 south CDH and Sunridge in his final days. There will be no service as per Alastair’s request. There will be a private tea at a later date. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com

My thoughts, prayers and condolences to Tracey and the family at this difficult time. I did not have the fortunate to meet Mr. Murray but I know from meeting Mrs. Murray and knowing Tracey that he will be missed. May he rest in peace knowing the legacy that will live on his name and honour. Sending love and light and please call me if I can be of any help.

Always

Helen, Tracey, Fraser and Fiona, I was very sadden to hear of Alastair’s passing. My fondest memory of Alastair (and Helen) was sitting in your kitchen in the house on Trunk Road, listening to you talking in Gaelic. I feel Alastair was the closest I had come to knowing my own Scottish ancestry. He was a wonderful man and I will miss him dearly. God Bless.

I was saddened to hear of Alastair’s passing. My condolences to his family. I work at the Crofton pulp mill and it was pleasure on those days that I had a chance to speak with Alastair. My fondest memories of him will be of his readings from my book of Burns poems on ‘Robbie Burns day’
