It is with saddened hearts that we announce the passing of a father, husband and dear friend; a truly great man. Gary left us peacefully after a very short, courageous battle with cancer in the early hours of June 1st. He is survived by his wife Linda of 43 years and 24 year old daughter Charlotte.
Gary was born in Nottingham, England in 1941 to Alfred and Doris Dilks. It was there he married his beautiful wife Linda in 1967, and began what would be an amazing partnership and life together filled with love and laughter. In 1986 they had their only child, Charlotte, born in Liecestershire England. In 1988 the Dilks” immigrated to Canada to pursue a new life and adventure together. They settled in Duncan BC and have remained there ever since. Gary and Linda started what is now a successful family business, Great Fermentations, where many friends and great memories were made. Charlotte grew up to finish University in Victoria, where she currently resides.
We will remember Gary as a loving, caring and generous man. He always made us laugh with his fantastic sense of humor and quick wit, and he always will. He had the ability to put a smile on any one”s face, no matter how down or out they were. We will continue to live our lives with the same outlook; what good is life if you can”t have fun while you are doing it. We will miss him immensely; you are forever in our hearts Dad, we love you. After four long days of rain, the sun came out for you today just as you left us my love, may you rest in peace.
A small gathering will be held at the Dilks residence mid-summer to celebrate Gary”s life and recall all of our fond memories of such an amazing man. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Cancer Society.

I was so sad to hear about Gary’s passing. He will be missed greatly – what a special, funny and knowledgable man. I’m glad he didn’t suffer for too long. My mother fought cancer for 25 years, even though when she was diagnosed at 47, they told her she had 1 year to live.
