William Abner Thorne

Tribute

THORNE: William Abner – passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday, October 28, 2010. Born on Valdes Island, BC on May 2, 1926. Predeceased by his wife Rita, daughter Denise, parents William and Agnes Thorne, great granddaughter MacKenzie Page Finch and brother Leonard. Lovingly remembered by his family; children; Sharon Thorne, Kevin Thorne, Barbara Ann Charlie (Thomas), Arlene Whelan (Bernie) and Jennie Thorne; grandchildren; David Charlie, Reanna August, Suzanne Yvonne Charlie, and Rita Thorne; great grandchildren; Keyona, Brayden, Chloe, Kevannah, Abigail and Saleisha Pelkey; bother Eugene as well as numerous other relatives and friends.

Abner was a commercial gillnet fisherman for many years as well as a logger and tree planting. He served on the Cowichan Tribes Council for 30 years. He was a member of the Duncan Native Sons Soccer Club and served as a coach for many years. His loved for the outdoors, the water , family and friends will truly be missed by all who knew him.

A Memorial mass was celebrated at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church on Tuesday November 2, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. Reverend Father Jai Celebrant. Online condolences may be offered at www.hwwallacecbc.com

I was very fond of Abner, he was a fine, gracious man, a rare human being and a support to me many years ago when I worked for the band.
