William Aize Dellebuur

December 23, 1933 - August 14, 2018

Tribute

William Aize Dellebuur, Supt. (Ret.)

December 23, 1933 – August 14, 2018

It is with great sadness that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather William (Bill) Dellebuur on August 14, 2018 in Duncan, BC.

Bill was born December 23, 1933 in Teulon, Manitoba. He joined the RCMP December 7, 1953 and went on to serve in many communities in Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia until his retirement as Superintendent in Charge of Richmond Detachment in 1990.

Bill married Margaret Chambers on December 13, 1958 in Winnipeg Manitoba and they have four children.

Upon retirement, Bill and Marg moved to Duncan, BC.  In his retirement, Bill served as President of the RCMP Central Island Veterans for many years. Bill also enjoyed being involved with the junior hockey team, curling, and volunteering in many community endeavors. He spent his life working to make a difference wherever he and Marg lived. One of his favourite pastimes was “solving the world’s problems” over coffee with his buddies.

Bill had an illustrious career and was an avid community volunteer, however the most important thing in his life was his family. He leaves behind his wife of 59 years Margaret; his children Brent (Heather), Brad (Toni), Barry (Allison) and Kristy (Paul); and his grandchildren Eric, Beth, Josh, Olivia, Lauren, Declan and Sadie.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held September 16, 2018 at 1:00 at the Duncan Curling Club 3191 Sherman Road, Duncan, BC. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Bill’s name to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation.

Condolences to family and friends of William. Many of our officers, including myself and our youngest recruit met Bill at a recent “Coffee with a Cop” where he attended to speak about the “state of affairs” in the force and our community. We shared a lot of stories and I speak for the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP Detachment in saying Rest in Peace Bill, you will be missed but not forgotten. Thank you for your service.

so sorry to learn of Bill’s sudden passing. While it is a shock to all who know him as he passed so quickly, it was a lovely way for him to leave this earthly home. He will be missed…

I am so sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. My heart goes out to the Dellebuur family. I remember so many wonderful conversations with Bill. He was such a kind man, with always something positive to say. So many wonderful stories he would tell of his life with the RCMP and his travels. He was such a learned individual and I loved hearing about his tales. Never judged but only offered advice when asked. He was a prince of a man. Truly sorry. Gone before his time.

We are very sorry to hear of Bill’s passing. He was a great neighbour and a real character and we enjoyed our chats at the end of our driveways up on the hill. Bill was always the cop on the block and we always felt safe at home and when away. We will always remember him saying “And I said to Marg…..” He had time for everyone and always a story to tell. Our condolences to the family. From Shirley, Corrie and Craig
