McBride: Walter William C.D. Lt. Col (Retired)
Bill passed away peacefully with his loving wife Margaret by his side on Tuesday April 27, 2010. Left to mourn is his daughters, Trudy, Billie Jean, Robyn, and Marianne; sons, David and Bob and grandchildren Dan, Deanne, Sydney, Cole, Cameron, Megan and Andrew as well as 6 great grandchildren; Katia, Javen, Mercedes, Roxanne, Kate and Kennedy.
Bill was born on December 31, 1923 in Winnipeg, Manitoba where he was raised until joined the RCAF in 1942 and proudly served for 32 years. He was a member of the Wartime Pilots and the Observers Association. He navigated on anti-submarine duty patrols over the North Atlantic. Bill retired in Winnipeg at the age of 51 when he and Margaret moved to Lumby, BC where they cleared some land and built a log house. Another moved took them to Nanoose Bay and then to Duncan. Bill was an accomplished builder and a fine finishing carpenter. He had many hobbies; sang in the Church Choir and a Barber Shop Quartet. He believed in fitness and was an exceptional swimmer and life guard.
Special thanks to nieces Pat and Georgie for their loving care and help. We would like to thank the staff at Cowichan District Hospital for their exceptional compassionate care.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Edward’s Roman Catholic Church, 2085 Maple Bay Road, Duncan BC on Wednesday May 5, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Father Frank Franz Celebrant. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired memorial remembrances may be made to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation or the charity of ones choice.
