Victor Thomas Kellerman

February 26, 1929 - July 27, 2016

Tribute

.It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we
announce the peaceful passing of Victor Thomas
Kellerman at Cairnsmore Place on July 27,
2016. He is survived by his daughters Rebecca
Fothergill (Wayne) and Lindy Holman (Doug),
grandchildren Dustin, Dane, Sadie (Jesse), Luke
(Brie), Frank, Caitlin (James), Rachael and 3
great grandchildren Austin, Kayge and Ellie.
Dad was born on February 26, 1929 on the family
farm in Bruno, Saskatchewan at the beginning of
the Great Depression, into a family that would
grow to consist of 9 children (5 girls and 4 boys).
The early years for Dad were very desperate,
hard times but the family persevered and after
the war moved to BC and Dad eventually came
to the island where he met his wife, Iris. They
had 2 children – Rebecca and Lindy-Lou and Dad
was so proud of his girls. Dad passed his steam
ticket and landed a job at the mill in Youbou.
He and Mom bought a house there and remained there for 60 years. Dad
was a hard worker, an avid fisherman and a formidable crib player. His
family was everything to him and he always vowed that they would never
do without – as he had done. He was always there to give advice (whether
you wanted it or not) or to lend a helping hand. He could fix anything
and never forgot the value of a dollar.
Dad had a great sense of humour and a catch-phrase for everything. If you
were restless or fidgety, he would tell you “you’re like a fart in a bottle”
– we never did find out exactly what that meant. When saying good-bye,
Dad would always tell you to “keep clam”. So, “keep clam” Dad until we
meet again. We miss you terribly.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Canadian Cancer Society
in Dad’s memory.
Dad’s request was to have his ashes spread on Cowichan Lake with
Mom’s. This will be done at a later date with a luncheon to follow. An
announcement will be made closer to the time.

Becky and Lindy-Lou, so sorry to hear of Uncle Vic’s passing. Although now a continent apart I remember fondly our visits with Vic and recall him as being a loving father, a fountain of knowledge and a fastidious craftsman. I know he will be missed by many. Thinking of you.

I am so sorry for your loss girls my prayers go with you. Vic was a great man and a good friend to my dad at the center. I used to as well as my dad play crib and pool at the center. He had a great sense of humor with a lot of 1 line zingers he could always get my dad going at times. We used to have some good talks about the old days in Youbou and how at first he really didnt like me because I wasnt good enough for you girls and how I was a bad influence on the both of you. lol. anyway take care and let me know when the service will be. Love you both and my thoughts are with you..Greg
