Sorry for your loss.
I have fond memories of Vern. I grew up with my family on highway 18 right next door to Rich Bennet’s where “Vern the firewood guy” cut most of his firewood. Almost everyday I would hear his chainsaw, and when I was a young boy I would go over and help him feed the wood splitter. Charlotte would always stop by to say hello and deliver a raisin cinnamon bagel and hot chocolate for me, and a coffee and bagel with cream cheese for Vern from Tom Horton’s. I volunteered to work for him but he would always give me $5, or $6 if I worked hard enough. Vern was a dear man who always had a smile on his face and a joke up his sleeve. My sincere condolences. He will be missed. May he rest in peace.
I regret to say that I will be unable to attend his celebration of life, but I will be thinking of you all.

When I was in my early teens, Vern and family were building a house near where I lived in Cowichan Bay. I would often pop over to visit and was always made to feel welcome (even though I must have been something of a nuisance!), often fed, and sometimes even treated to lunch at the cafe! Many, many years later, he ended up splitting wood next door to our home, where Vern and Charlotte befriended our youngest son (who was way more helpful than I had been!). Last year we saw Vern up at CDH several times and there he still had that ability to make everybody like him! A dear, dear man!! Our sincere condolences to you all.

From: Gail Miller
Relation: His wife is Mr Miller’s cousin.

Charlotte our thoughts are with you and your family in this time of sorrow. Gail and Joe Miller.

From: Mary (Carson) Dancy
Relation: Accountant for many years.

Sherry, I was so sorry to read about Vern’s passing and knowing you will find comfort in remembering the wonderful times you had together. My memories of you both are the annual visit at income tax time for many years. My sincere sympathy.
