Vera Lucy Martin

May 21, 1942 - July 12, 2025

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Vera Lucy Martin on July 12, 2025 at the age of 83. Vera passed away peacefully in her home.

She was born in Bexhill-on-Sea on May 21, 1942 and she was primarily raised by her grandparents, who she was very fond of.

Vera is survived by her sister Pauline, her children Linda (Herb), Colin (Jenn), Paul, Valerie (Chad), her grandchildren Herb, Crystal, Jarvist, Keenan, Bailey, Thalia, Sarah, Aidan, Alanna and her great-grandchildren.

Vera was preceded in death by her loving husband Douglas, her mother Betty, her brother Raymond, and her son David.

In her younger years mum worked in a chocolate factory and as a bingo caller.  In June of 1970 Doug and Vera moved from England to Canada with their four young children. In 1979 mum worked as a home care worker in Vernon. One of her biggest accomplishments in life was going to college in the early 90s to become a registered nurse, a career she fully enjoyed for 17 years.  She always took pride in her work and caring for her patients.

Over the course of her life Vera and Doug cared for many foster children and later adopted a baby girl in 1986.  A huge part of mum’s life was being a part of the Concenti Choir for 35+ years. Singing was a passion of mum’s for many years at church, in the choir and around home.

Mum thoroughly loved being married to her husband Doug. They loved to dance, go camping in their RV, spend time in the garden, and actively participate in the church community but most of all loved being around their children and family.  Her whole life she was always caring for other people.  Mum was very independent, quick witted, and had a great sense of humor.  Mum loved to cook meals from scratch, bake, do crossword puzzles, and make crafts.  She loved to share stories from her life.

When her husband Doug sadly passed away in 2008, mum found comfort in caring for her friends, volunteering, and being a regular at the seniors centre.

Mum will be very missed by all those who knew her, especially by her children.  We find comfort knowing she has been reunited with her loving husband Douglas.

A service will be held at 1pm on July 24 at St. Peters Anglican Church in Duncan BC with reception to follow.

Donations can be made in honour of Vera to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
