Susan Grace Everitt

July 8, 1958 - April 2, 2019

Tribute

Susan was born in Sudbury Ontario to parents George and Jeanne. Three siblings, older brother Brian and younger sisters Wendy and Lynn. The family moved to Nanaimo when Susan was in grade 3.

Susan grew up as a Harewood girl. She went to Malaspina College/BCIT and obtained a Diploma in Surveying.

Susan met her husband Brian while working at a copper mine (now Highland Valley Copper) near Logan Lake, BC. She rose to the position of Chief Surveyor. In 1984, they moved to Vancouver, and Susan started working for Pioneer Metals, a junior mining company. As the company grew to three operating gold mines, Susan went from First Employee to Corporate Secretary and then to Project Administrator. Susan bought her first house and a new Mercedes Benz.

After Expo 86, Vancouver became busy, and Susan wanted to move back to the island. In 1989, Susan and Brian moved to Crofton. Two children followed, Derek and Allison. Susan was active in the Crofton School PAC and the Crofton Community Centre Society.

After the kids were in school, Susan went back to work at the Crofton Pulp and Paper Mill. She started working in the Project Office and finished as a Health and Safety Coordinator. She obtained her Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation. While working at the mill, she had a 1000 boyfriends.

In 2008, Susan went to work for the BC Forest Safety Council as an auditor. It was her dream job. Driving around BC, she helped people to become safer.

In January of 2013, Susan was diagnosed with brain cancer. Many thanks to everyone at the BC Forest Safety Council for their support during this difficult time. Susan recovered and pursued her hobbies, gardening and cooking. She travelled to Europe and did several trips throughout BC.

She said she had a great team of medical professionals looking after her.

The team included:

– Dr. Fleetwood and the staff of Victoria General Hospital

– Dr. Attwell, Dr. Alexander, and the staff of the BC Cancer Agency

– Dr. Masuda, the chemo girls, and the staff of the Cowichan Hospital

– Dr. Gilbert and the staff of the Coleman Clinic

A big thank you to everyone for being so caring and compassionate. Susan will be missed.

At Susan’s request, there will be no funeral. Instead of flowers, donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation and the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation.
