Sirjeet Singh Bawa

June 28, 1934 - August 6, 2026

Tribute

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sirjeet Singh Bawa, affectionately known as Sarge, at the age of 92. Born to Bawa Singh and Puran Kaur in Duncan BC, he was predeceased by his brothers Ajeet, Ragbir and Bhajan “Pudge”.

Sarge had a soul so pure, a heart that extended beyond the universe; a heart true to his family, his friends, his acquaintances, and anyone who crossed his path. Sarge was raised during an era where people and relationships mattered and were the foundation of life. Friends, neighbors, family, community were all part of his upbringing. His kindness and generosity were an innate part of his being. He was perceptive, compassionate and generous, and all his relationships were built on these principles.

Sarge was a man intellectually ahead of his time. He was brilliant, intelligent and valued learning, knowledge and education above all. He was a pilot, a photographer, a huntsman, a fisherman, a teacher and a businessman. Through hard work and perseverance, he built a business and incredibly successful life for his family and became a mentor and father figure to so many.

He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Daljeet; his daughter Bonnie (Reg) and granddaughter Chantel; his daughter Shiela (Davindar – deceased); his son Robin (Kim) and grandchildren Arjun, Taylor and Kayden; his brother Shub (Nirmal); his sisters-in-law Harjeet and Terry; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at the Cowichan Community Centre, 2687 James St., Duncan BC, on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 1:00 p.m.

The doors will open at 12:15 p.m. A prayer service and luncheon will follow at the Paldi Sikh Temple.

Success Ralph Waldo Emerson

To laugh often and much;

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;

To earn the approval of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty;

To find the best in others;

To give of one’s self;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;

To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation;

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived . . .

This is to have succeeded
