Owen, Sheila Margaret (nee Maddock)
Sheila passed away peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital at the age of 86, after a brief battle with colon cancer. Born in Seven Oaks, Kent, England she was the eldest daughter to Margaret and Llywelyn (Bill) Maddock. Sheila was predeceased by her parents, her ex husband Archie Owen and daughter Tracey Lang. She is survived by son Tim (Karen), grandson Brandon Lang (Robyn), great grandsons Tobey and Cody Lang and a great granddaughter due in April. She is also survived by granddaughter Vicki Lang, brother Dion (Diana) of New Zealand, sister Judy Creyke and brother Ben (Sally) both of Wales, UK and many nieces and nephews in Canada and overseas.
Sheila and Archie immigrated to Canada in 1957 and after briefly living in Victoria, they settled in the Duncan area. Sheila had various jobs during her first decade in the valley and after a few years of managing the Silver Bridge Inn with husband Archie they purchased an old house on Maple Bay Road which they turned into the Quamichan Inn, opening in 1969 which they operated until selling in 1981. She then turned her passion for flower arranging into her next career, working many years at the Floral Art Shop until her retirement. She continued doing it for friends for many years after. Sheila was involved with many clubs over the years most recently the I.O.D.E., Probus and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was also an usher at the Cowichan Theatre and a member of the St. Peters Anglican Church Altar Guild.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses at the Cowichan District Hospital, Leslie and Michelle and the entire Home Care East team.
At Sheila’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the SPCA or a charity of your choice.

My sincere condolence to Sheila’s family and close friends at the passing of our dear Sheila. She will be sadly missed but brings to each of us special memories of her laughter, hosting lunches, arranging flowers, feeding goldfish, sharing travel and performing arts experiences, happily volunteering at the Cowichan Theatre, now the Centre of the Perfoming Arts listening to her stories.
My husband, Michael Muenzler of a year March 15, 2015, enjoyed the newfilled obituary very much.

I wish to convey wishes of sympathy to the family and friends on this occasion of the passing of such a caring and valiant soul. Sheila gave invaluable support to my late husband, Douglas Roe when he was caring at home for his first wife, Joan with her Alzheimers. Then later Sheila gave me her friendship and wise counsel. Thank you, Sheila.
