Scott William Hayden-Luck

Tribute

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Scott (William) Hayden-Luck, from Duncan BC, affectionately known as Foggy, Scottie, or Foghorn Leghorn, who left us far too soon, March 14, 2025.

Scott was our baby brother,  one of four siblings including Greg, Alison and Doug.  Also in Scott’s legacy are 6 nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.  Pre-deceased by his parents Al and Joan.  A loving and devoted family member who had an undeniable love for animals, including his beloved pets Henry, Joey, and the often-misunderstood Trigger. He was a passionate advocate for animal welfare, always crusading for the care and respect they deserved.

Scott loved to talk and he could talk to anyone and everyone, and he often did. His infectious belly laugh could be heard from miles away, and his gentle spirit touched the lives of all who knew him. Scott’s personality shone brightly; he wouldn’t hurt a soul and was always there to offer his opinions—whether as a columnist or simply sitting around the living room.

A fiercely competitive soul, Scott’s love of sports ran deep. He excelled as a hockey player, even though he never really wanted to engage in the competitive side of the game. He preferred to play for fun and camaraderie, with the post-game beers and recounting of stories in the parking lot being the highlight of the night. He was also a Winnipeg Jets superfan, loyal and passionate, even when it wasn’t always easy.

Scott’s career journey was as diverse as his personality. He worked in various fields, from air freight shipping to telecommunications installation and sales, to sanitation engineering, and even as a school bus driver. He thrived in each of these roles, always leaving a lasting impact on those around him.

A world traveler, Scott had the privilege of exploring many countries, including the Caribbean, Cuba, Italy, Greece, Germany, France, the Netherlands, England, and Scotland. Whether by airplane, sailboat, or his infamous RX7, he embraced each adventure with joy.

He was also an avid golfer, reaching a single-digit handicap, but for Scott, golf was never just about the score. It was about the camaraderie, the fun of the game, and the joy of spending time with his friends. He was the proud inventor and promoter of the legendary “Foggy,” a game within the game that became a symbol of his playful spirit.

Scott’s impact was not measured by his career or achievements alone but by the deep connections he made with people everywhere he went. His friendships were genuine, lasting, and meaningful.

Scott will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to have crossed paths with him. His memory will live on in the stories we share, the laughter we remember, and the love he gave so freely.

A Celebration of Scott’s Life was held at Hecate Park on Cowichan Bay, a place near and dear to his heart,  and we honor  the life of this remarkable man, son, brother uncle and friend.

Rest in peace, Scott. You will forever be missed, but never forgotten.
