In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Ruby on February 22, 2023. Ruby was born on July 1, 1937 to Olive (Larcombe) and Wilfred Summers at Meadowlea Manitoba. She had many happy memories of growing up on the farm with her 3 sisters. She married Bart Prior and they lived mainly in Portage, MB. They had 5 children. Raising the family was an important part of Ruby’s life. She had countless stories to tell of each child. Later Ruby married Garnet Durant and another chapter of her life began. They moved to Duncan, B.C. and started a small business called Valley Heating.
In 2006, Ruby met up with an old friend Doug Morrison. They began spending summers in Manitoba and winters in Duncan. They had the best of both worlds. Ruby made beautiful quilts in both places. They also travelled down the Oregon Coast several times. Ruby was predeceased by 3 sons Donald, Robert, and Garrell.
She is survived by husband Doug, daughter Jan Bain (Don) of Ashern, MB, son Terry (Deidra), of Duncan and daughter in law Nancy of Neepawa, MB. Also, sisters Jean Proctor of Woodlands, MB, Edna Smith of Port Alberni, B.C. and Archeena Hogg (Trevor) of Warren, MB. Ruby also has 9 grandchildren and several great grand children and several nieces and nephews.
Special mention to Matt, Scott, Jasmine, and India Rose for their entertainment and companionship which Ruby thoroughly enjoyed.
Ruby did not want a funeral service. Anyone wishing to make a donation in her memory can do so to the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation or your favorite charity.
