Rosemary Cumpstone
December 29, 1949 - February 16, 2024
Tribute
Rosemary Cumpstone passed away on February 16, 2024 after a battle with cancer. She passed peacefully in her sleep with her family close by. She is survived and tenderly remembered by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years Robert (Bob) Cumpstone, her sons Richard (Lindsey) and their children Cameron and Jacob, who had recently arrived from England for a visit, Russell (Christine) and their children Cailum and Declan from Duncan, BC and Willow, her beloved spaniel.
Rosemary was born in Aberdeen Scotland on December 29, 1949. She immigrated to Marathon, Ontario when she was 3 years old with her parents Mary and Alexander Low. They moved to Nanaimo where she went to school and then worked with her brother at the Nanaimo Free Press. It was there that Bob with his Datsun convertible won Rosemary’s heart.
Rosemary devoted herself to her husband and raising their two boys as a stay-at-home mom. They enjoyed many road trips as a family. She was the “cool” mom who welcomed all their friends and was a confidante for her boys and their friends’ crazy escapades. She later worked in the deli at a local grocer where she made strong friendships and was much loved.
Rosemary and Bob retired early to Wasa, BC and enjoyed many years of Snowbirding and travelling through the majority of the United States, Europe and Great Britain. They enjoyed all that the Kootenays offered, camping on the beautiful lakes, fishing lakes and streams and the fall hunts. They loved exploring all the backroads around Wasa finding beautiful views, secret fishing and hunting spots and the best firewood. Rosemary could spot any animal anywhere, even without binoculars. They enjoyed the rhythms of the sun and seasons through the picturesque views of the Purcell Mountain range from their beautiful homes that they built in Wasa. Rosemary loved garage “sailing” and would keep Bob waiting as she perused the boxes with books, teddy bears and the free items. She loved her family and treasured her visits with her kids and grandkids and was the most amazing mother-in-law! Her baked macaroni will be forever attempted but it’ll never be quite the way she made it.
Her sweetness, kindness and smile will be forever be remembered by her brothers Sandy (Danielle), Brian, her sister Anna and their families, the whole Cumpstone Clan and many friends and all who were lucky enough to know her.

Sending our deepest condolences to the Cumpstone family, many friends and acquaintances that had a chance to meet and spend time with Rosemary. We are close friends with her son Russell and his wife and boys. We met Rosemary and Bob at Russell’s while they visited one fall, you could see the love she had for her family in her eyes as she took in the evening of laughs and conversations. We are happy to have met such a loving soul. Hugs to all.

Our deepest condolences to all her family. She loved those boys so much and those grandsons also of course. She always spoke so lovingly of them…. wishing they lived closer. Rosemary is one of the most gentle souls and loves her cocker with all her heart. Bob and her did everything together… and we enjoyed sharing a great friendship here in Wasa with them.
