Rose Lee Wing

January 7, 1915 - February 1, 2015

Tribute

With much love and great sadness we announce the passing of Rose Lee Wing on February 1, 2015, twenty-four days after celebrating her 100th birthday.  Rose died peacefully in her sleep after a short illness with pneumonia.   She is predeceased by her husband Chong (Charlie) and is dearly missed by sons Robert and Gordon in Duncan and daughter Margaret (Tony) in Berkeley California.  She also leaves to mourn in Berkeley her two grandsons Mike (Susie) and Steve (Lin) and great grandchildren,  Enzo, Alani, Kalani, and Kanoa.

Mom  was born in China and as a child moved to Victoria, B.C.  She married in Victoria and moved to Duncan and resided at her Dingwall Street home for over 80 years where she had beautiful flower gardens every year.   She worked very hard all her life as an organic gardener, growing fruits and vegetables and flowers for her friends and neighbours to enjoy.  She had a great sense of humor and enjoyed a good laugh with everyone she met.

She was an avid sports fan and never missed an NFL football game on T.V.  Her favorite players were quarterback Joe Montana of the San Francisco 49’ers and John Elway of the Denver Broncos.  Mom loved sightseeing tours especially to San Francisco and Las Vegas where she always said she broke even. The family wishes to express their appreciation for the compassionate care provided by Dr. Malherbe and the staff and nurses of  Cowichan District Hospital.  Thank you to the staff and nurses on the 2nd floor for your kind care,  especially to nurse Rose on the 2nd floor North.  And special  thanks  to the wonderful caring staff at the 2nd floor Cerwydden Care Home during her short stay.  You made her Christmas and 100th Birthday Party very special and memorable.

At Rose’s request there will be no service.  Instead, one beautiful spring day her family and friends will celebrate by scattering her ashes in Beacon Hill Park, Victoria, where she spent many fun days playing in the park.

Dear Rose,
I have not really seen you for many years but do remember our times together. I did not know you were an avid NFL fan. I do hope you saw the Super Bowl on Sunday Feb 1. Will remember you with fondness.

From: Olive Auchinachie

It is always a sad time when a parent passes; but remember your mother had a long and rewarding life, enriched by pride in her family and by joy in her gardening. Consider yourself blessed for having her with you for so much of your life. Sincerely, Olive

From: Robert R Chow

Mrs. Wing thanks for your kindness and neighbourliness. I appreciate the fact that you allowed a skateboard ramp built on your backyard. We had fun and you were young at heart for us. Rest in Peace and with sincere and greatest sympathies to the Wing Family.
