Ronald (Ron) William Thistlethwaite
August 1, 1946 - February 4, 2020
Tribute
It is with great sadness that we share with you the loss of a wonderful and kind man, Ronald W Thistlethwaite. Ron was born August 1 st, 1946 and was reunited with his wife and best friend, Diana, Feb 4 th, 2020. He was predeceased by Diana only 3 12 months earlier. Just one month before their 54th wedding anniversary. Ron is also predeceased by his parents, Andrew (Wally) and Marion (nee: Nelson), sister Mavis Smith, brother Allan (Skinny), brother-in-laws Syd Milsap and Harold Brooks.
Ron is survived by his son Ron (Sherrie), grandchildren Alicia (Xavier), Corey (Jackie), great grandson Beau, son Dean (Lisa), grandchildren Ashley and Sydney. He is also survived by sisters Jean Brooks and Gail Milsap, brothers Mel (Allison) and Dan (Marja), brother-in-law Barry Smith. His loss is mourned by his other family Mother-in-law Eileen McKenna, sister-in-laws Bonnie (Lauren) and Debbie, brother-in-laws Vic and Jim, many nieces and nephews and extended family.
Ron was born in Duncan, he was the 2 nd oldest of 7 children. He moved to Chemainus at a very young age and later raised his own family in this community. He worked various jobs but his longest being at the Crofton Pulp & Paper Mill in the Woodroom, Shipping and then retiring as Weir Operator. He also enjoyed defending workers rights as Master Shop Steward then President of the PPWC Union Local 2. He was an involved member of the Chemainus Legion Branch 191 and spent many hours volunteering his time cleaning, bartending, sitting on the executive and selling poppies among other duties. Ron was also a fairly recent member of the Fraternal order of Eagles out of Ladysmith.
Ron was someone his family and friends could always count on. He and his wife, Diana always had a warm and welcoming home be it for family, friends and friends of their boys. Their lives were most fulfilled when shared with others. For those of us left to mourn both Ron and Di it goes without saying that they loved each and everyone of us.
