Date of Death: November 2, 2025
Tribute
We are sad to announce the passing of Ronald (Ron) Ansell after a brief illness, in Duncan, British Columbia, at the age of 88.
Ron was born and grew up in Toronto, Ontario. As a teenager, he met Willemina (Willie), who would become his wife of 66 years. They moved to British Columbia after their marriage and lived in various communities throughout the province. Together they raised three children of whom he was very proud of and loved dearly.
Ron enjoyed learning about history and geography and for many years he used storytelling to share his knowledge with students, while teaching school in Prince George and other school districts in B.C. He was a dedicated teacher for 30 years.
In 1992 Ron and Willie moved to Arrow Park, near Nakusp, where they built a home on Arrow Lake. He explored the area and numerous historical sites in the Kootenay region. He volunteered at the museum in Nakusp for several years. in 2019, they moved to Crofton on Vancouver Island where he enjoyed being closer to family and the opportunity to spend more time together. Here, he continued with his avid interest in local history and volunteered at the Crofton museum and joined the Underwater Archeological Society of B.C.
Fly fishing in his younger years was a favoured past-time, and spending time on the water exploring by boat gave him immense enjoyment.
Ron is survived by his wife Willie, daughter Kim, son Craig (Michelle), granddaughters Denise (James), Krystina, Meghan and brother Larry. He is predeceased by his son Mark, and sister Judy.
