Robert Bob Ronaldson

January 19, 1938 - November 16, 2009

Tribute

RONALDSON: Robert William “Bob” – Born in Toronto, Ontario on January 19, 1938. Bob passed way peacefully on November 16, 2009 at the age of 71.
Left to grieve his passing are, loving wife Diane; children, Elizabeth (Ross), Kevin, Lee Anne (Ted), Ian (Rhonda), Amy (Andrew); grandchildren, Zachary, Hayden, Nicole, Christopher; great grandchildren, Aylah, Emily, and numerous special friends. Bob was a kind man with overabundant patience for his wife and was always there for her when she finished her walks. Bob”s other passion was firefighting. He followed in his fathers footsteps in becoming an Ontario firefighter as his grandson is considering following in his. Bob was a firefighter from 1957 until he retired in 1988. His expertise was requested after retirement to organize the volunteer fire department in the Mono Township of Ontario. His dedication drove him to donate all his own fire equipment to a firefighter from Chile whom he had met and who despirately needed gear in his own small town. Bob had a love for nature and savoured this with an annual retreat to Tofino with Diane. He was a good friend to many, remembered by him each Christmas with his homemade shortbread cookies. This baking and giving of shortbread was a 50 year tradition begining in Ontario and continued in Duncan when Bob and Diane moved in 1993.
Diane wishes to thank Dr. Teresa Elliot, Dr. Jim Spence and Dr. Willie Pewarchuk, the chemo Angels, nursing staff of 2 South, homecare nurses who helped with Bob’s journey and the home support staff for their extraordinary care.
There will be a gathering to honor Bob at the Quamichan Inn, 1478 Maple Bay Road, Duncan BC on Thursday November 26, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please send your donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.

I am very sorry to hear about Bob’s passing. Though I had not seen him in many years, I still have fond memories of him and Diane and of how kind and generous they were to me as I grew up. He was a fun-natured man who will be missed. My love and condolences go out to Diane and family.

Bob and Diane’s life touched mine briefly, but still I remember the kindness and generosity of heart this lovely couple exuded. Beautiful memories are the true gold in life, Diane, and you have a wealth of these in your Memory Book. My deepest sympathy.
