Robert (Bob) Earl Parmenter

July 26, 1935 - March 6, 2019

Tribute

PARMENTER:     Robert Earl

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Bob on March 6, 2019 with family by his side. He was born on July 26, 1935.  Bob fought bravely from the age of 17 with polio and the resulting handicaps that come with this disease.  All though Bob never let polio hold him back it was eventually cancer that caught up with him a few short years ago.

Bob is lovingly remembered by his wife Sue; daughters; Debbie Parmenter; Pat Barnes (Guy); Sandy Deliva (Happy);  5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.  The recent birth of a great granddaughter brought great joy to family particularly Bob when he got to hold her and the beam of light that emanated from him was precious.

Bob started his working career as an insurance adjuster which took him across the country.  Bob and Sue eventually moved to the Island where they purchased & ran Pier 66 Marina in Cowichan Bay, from 1973 to 1996. With the help of Sue and their 3 daughters, he made the business very successful.  Bob was a member of numerous Masonic Lodges and Shrine Clubs consisting of Malahat Lodge in Mill Bay, Tzouhalem Chapter of Royal Arch; Kona Lodge and Shrine Center in Kona Hawaii; Gizeh Shriners of BC and Yukon; Cowichan Valley Shrine Club in Duncan; as well as a member of Scottish Rite.  All of which he dedicated many hours to attend and be part of.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre, 5285 Polkey Road, Duncan BC on Saturday April 27, 2019 from 2 to 4 pm.

From: Bruce Carnegie
Relation: Family Friend

I was very surprised and sad to hear that Bob Parmenter had passed away. The Parmenter’s were one of the first families we (me and my two brothers) met when we first moved to Duncan in 1975. He was about the friendliest and most sincere “older dude” that I had ever met in my 13 years of existence. He could tell right away that I loved boats; and, boy was I excited when he showed me how to operate one of his Pier 66 rentals, and then let me take it out for a spin. For many years our two families united on occasion for a Saturday or Sunday get-together, and I always enjoyed their company and the fact that Bob took an interest in what was going on in my life. The last time I saw Bob was when my father-in-law passed away eight years ago. Bob, Sue and I, and my parents, had lunch together, and I still recall how he was the same jovial, happy-go-lucky person that he was when we first met 36 years earlier. We will miss you Bob.

From: Ian Carnegie
Relation: Long time friend and former coworker

Although not unexpected, it is still tough to lose a loved old friend. A friendship that spans over fifty years. Bob’s affable manner endeared him to all who knew him which helped him be successful as an insurance claims specialist and later in business. Good bye dear friend, may we meet again.
Ian
