Robert Coates

July 10, 1927 - January 6, 2014

Bob passed away peacefully on January 6th after a valiant battle with COPD and Arthritis. He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and two of his sisters. Bob is survived by his wife Barbara, his children and grandchildren, Barb’s daughter and family, his sisters Elaine and Doreen and many nieces and nephews.  Bob was a second generation Victorian, a long time public servant with both the Federal and Provincial Governments.  He enjoyed a lengthy and active retirement golfing, fishing, travelling and was a proud member of the Masonic Order and Janizaries Marching Unit of the Gizeh Shriners of BC and Yukon.

Deepest appreciation to Drs. Kier McMillan and Bruce Sanders, staff at RJH Hospice and the many caregivers from Island Health and Beacon Community Services over the last few months.

A celebration of life will be held at Trafalgar/Propatria Branch 292 of the Royal Canadian Legion, 411 Gorge Road East on Monday, January 20th at 2:00 pm.  Donations in lieu of flowers in memory of Bob may be made to the Gizeh Shriners of BC and Yukon, Transportation Fund, 3550 Wayburne Drive Burnaby BC V5G 3K9.
