Tribute
After an eight year battle with cancer, Rick passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 14th. He was surrounded by his family, wife and soul mate Linda, daughter Karalyn (Hamish), granddaughter Malia, son Brendon (Lauren), grandson Keenen. Rick was born in Victoria on September 23rd 1949. He was predeceased by his parents Clifford and Jocelyn Joyce. Along with his immediate family he is survived by brother Arthur (Dianne), sister Margaret Stewart (Angus), nephews Michael, William, Richard, and David, niece Christina, and sister in law Karen Brock.

Rick began his career in Human Resources with the Provincial Government in 1970 and later started his own company enabling him to work from home and spend time with his family and community. Rick also worked for Brentwood College as a bus driver for some 13 years. He enjoyed his time with the students and considered this his “fun job”. Rick was a long time member of the Gizeh Shriners of BC, The Royal Order of Jesters, and a Charter Member of the Thunderbird Scooter Unit. Since 1996 Rick was actively involved as a Board member with Community Futures Cowichan and from 2008 – 2011 he was the Chair of Community Futures BC. The 15 years Rick dedicated to Community Futures will leave a lasting impact, his leadership brought positive change in BC and the Western provinces and his CF network brought him true friendships. Rick’s world was his family and the memories of summers at the lake and trips to Maui will be treasured.
A Celebration of Rick’s life will be held at the McNeill Centre at Brentwood College in Mill Bay on Sunday, October 30th at 2:00pm.

Dear Linda and family,
Just received notification of Rick’s passing. We lived next door to each other when we were kids on Armstrong Ave. in Victoria. Arthur, Ricky, Margaret Anne and the rest of the neighbourhood kids all played with each other and we had so much fun. Used to call his parents Auntie Joy and Uncle Cliff as they were my parents best friends on the block. Have many great memories of those times. Wishing you and your family, Arthur and Margaret Anne our sincere condolences at this time. It will get easier at each day passes and the memories of you life together will always be with you.
