Richard Holland

November 28, 1943 - September 9, 2015

Tribute

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Henry Holland, suddenly and peacefully on September 9, 2015, with his family by his side at Cowichan District Hospital.  Rick was born on November 28, 1943 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and is survived by the love of his life, wife Aileen Holland of 51 years, his children Peter (Sara) and Christopher (Serene) and cherished granddaughter Brianna, his Aunt Gail who was like a sister to him, and his faithful dog Misty.

Rick lived in Victoria for many years and then moved his family to Crofton where, with the help of his sons and wife, he built his dream home overlooking Osborne Bay.  Rick valued hard work and was a welder by trade.  He worked at the Victoria Shipyards and Crofton Mill.  In retirement he loved to tinker in his workshop on his vintage cars, fix houses, and go fishing and crabbing.  Rick and Aileen visited many places in their motorhome and also travelled to over 75 countries.

Rick was generous with his time, enjoyed teaching his sons and many people his trades’ skills and could always be relied upon when family and friends needed help with a project.  He had a passion for life, enjoyed meeting new people and had a wide circle of friends from many walks of life.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rick’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of one’s choice.

Everyone who shared in the joy and fun of knowing Rick is invited to a Celebration of Life on Sunday, September 27, 2015 at 1:00 pm at the Crofton Community Centre, 8104 Musgrave.

We were shocked to hear of Ricks passing. We were on the same cruise with them in January, and shared many laughs. He enjoyed his family and life so much. He will be so missed…by so many. Hugs to Aileen and the rest of the family.

Dear Aileen, Chris, Peter and family, our thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time. I remember your visit many years ago and never forgot you. Your Dad was very jovial and the most important thing I remember is how much he loved you all. No words can take away the sadness or pain at this time, just know you are all in our thoughts and our condolences to all of you. *HUGS* from all of us.

We are sending our love and condolences to Aileen, Pete, Sara, Chris Serene and Brianna. We have wonderful memories of good times spent with Richard and Aileen. Richard was always positive, happy and fun loving. He helped with many welding repairs and had a bed for Don when he worked up island and had a tight turn around shift. Richard was always welcoming and caring. We will miss him.

Our thoughts are with Ricks family- we are so sorry for your loss which is also our loss as well as anyones loss that knew Rick. There was never a kinder more generous man and we always loved his enthusiasm and zest for life. There was never a dull nor silent minute when Rick was around- he was sure to keep things lively. Rick loved people, kids especially and loved life. We loved spending the summer with him in our pool which he enjoyed to the maximum. Rest in peace our friend.
