Richard Raymond Bexfield

May 23, 1927 - August 6, 2016

Tribute

Ray passed away peacefully at the Beckley Farm Lodge in Victoria, B.C., on August 6, 2016. He was 89. Predeceased by Evelyn, his loving wife of 60 years. Left to cherish his memory are: his daughter Bonnie Alguire (Craig), Lake Country, B.C., son Bill, Zhengzhou China, and granddaughters, Katie Coughlin (Shaun), Lisa Alguire (Graeme). Ray was born in Rosetown Sask., on May 23, 1927. He was the only child of William and Dorothy Bexfield. Ray left his family farm and headed out to Victoria as soon as he finished high school. In the 1950’s, he served 10 years as a Reservist in the Canadian Army.  Ray loved the coast and developed a keen interest in boating. He built a 17 foot cabin cruiser for his family. Together they enjoyed cruising the Gulf Islands with the Victoria Outboard Club and the Canadian Power Squadron. Ray and Evelyn spent many happy hours salmon fishing together. Ray was a Freemason for 54 years, Scottish Rite 32 degree. He was initiated into St. Andrew’s Lodge #49 in 1962 and became Worshipful Master in 1975, (later affiliated with Vancouver and Quadra Lodge #2). Noble Ray joined the Gizeh Shriners of B.C. & Yukon in 1988 and was a member of the Janizaries Marching Unit, Van. Island RV Club and the Legion of Honour. The Masonic organizations provided Ray and Evelyn with so many wonderful friendships and happy travels. Ray loved photography and always had a camera slung around his neck. He was appointed as Photographer for numerous Potentates over the years. Ray took thousands of pictures at Shrine events and then offered them back to the subjects for donations to the Shriners Hospitals. Ray was a true gentleman who loved his family and served his community. For those who wish to do so, donations to the Shriners Hospitals for Children would honour Ray’s memory and continue his legacy of giving. (3550 Wayburne Dr., Burnaby BC V5G 3K9). A celebration of life is being held Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Cadboro Bay United Church, .2625 Arbutus Road, Saanich, BC

Relation: VI Shrine RV Club

So very sorry to just learn of Ray’s passing today. He and Evelyn were always so friendly and inclusive of my late husband John Dean and I when we were in the Vancouver Island Shrine RV Club. I cherish the photos Ray took and shared of our camp outs as well as the memories of our happy times spent together. A genuinely good man.
