January 12, 1942 - March 1, 2018
Tribute
Ray passed away at home with his family by his side after a brief battle with cancer.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 51 years Dolores, his daughter Tracy (Brad), son Jeff (Susan), granddaughter Kylie, brother Roy (Sheila) and sister Elaine. Ray was predeceased by his father Everett Hutchinson, mother Phyllis Warren and sisters Audrey and Teresa. Ray was born in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan on January 12, 1942 and at the age of 6 months moved with his parents to Youbou BC. where he was raised.
He met Dolores after a visit to Calgary and they married in 1966. Newly married they purchased a home in Victoria where he worked as an estimator at Builders Sash & Door, and started a family. In 1973 Ray and his good friend Stan Powell purchased Cowichan Joinery and Ray built his home of 44 years in Cobble Hill where he raised his family. After many years of running a successful business they received an offer to sell the business to Sauder Industries. Ray was asked to be manager for Sauder’s facility located in Baltimore, Maryland. Ray and Dolores resided in Baltimore for 3 years until he retired in 2006 when they returned to Cobble Hill.
Ray enjoyed bowling, curling, and fishing but his true passions were golf and travel. Ray was a member at the Cowichan Golf Club and was fortunate enough to golf at some of the finest golf courses in the US. Ray and Dolores travelled extensively throughout their retirement including South Africa, most of Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, the US and many cruises. Ray led a very full life, had a great sense of humour, and built many long time friendships.
.A special thank you to Dr. Dan Phillipson for his care and compassion and VIHA for their services. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Ray’s name to the Canadian Cancer Society is appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held March 23,2018 from 1 pm – 3 pm at Cowichan Golf Club 4955 Trans-Canada Hwy.
