Tribute

 In loving memory

It is with hearts full of love and sorrow that we say goodbye to you, our dear Mom, Grandma, Peggy— your life spanned more than a century, filled with adventure, courage, and love. Even after 101 incredible years, we find ourselves unprepared for the silence left by your absence: no more can we be comforted by your gentle voice, warmed by your laughter, captivated by your stories, or held in your embrace. As we grieve, we are grateful that our memories will keep you close forever.

Born in England on September 22, 1923, you came of age in a world defined by turmoil and resilience. During WWII, in your early twenties, you volunteered for the Women’s Land Army, tending to farm animals and, most especially, to the horses. Those years forged your indomitable spirit —a quality that would shape the rest of your life.

With the war’s end, you married your childhood sweetheart, Gordon, and together you stepped into a new era. Never content with the ordinary, you became one of England’s first film stuntwomen, a true pioneer, breaking barriers, and blazing trails for those who would follow. You delighted us with tales of those daring days with a sparkle in your eyes that never dimmed.

The next chapter in your life took you across the sea, with your first son Dean, your husband, mother, and stepfather all seeking new beginnings in Canada. Settling in Toronto, your stuntwomen experience in England landed you roles in film and television series. It was there your second son, Lee, was born. But the west called, and soon you found home on Vancouver Island, a place whose natural beauty matched your own vibrant soul and where you would live out your days.

Inspired by your time in the Land Army and thinking of a more predictable future than film work, you started a riding stable, sharing your passion for horses with the community. Your compassion extended to all creatures, finding a home at the SPCA, where you worked tirelessly to protect and care for animals in need. Throughout your life you always had dogs. Each one stealing a special place in your heart and in theirs through your kindness.

You were a loving mother to your boys, Dean and Lee, and caring mother-in-law to Patty and Shari. As a grandmother to Braeden, Keaton, Ashley, and Ryan, you showered them with affection and pride. Your warmth and encouragement enriched all their lives. You were fortunate to have your mother, Edna (Nan), always nearby who supported you in your life choices and in raising your two sons, herself living to 102.

You were defined by your free spirit, determination, and zest for life. Even when the tides of love shifted and you and Gordon parted ways, you followed your heart towards happiness. In Bill, you found a cherished companion, and together you embraced life’s moments— sunlit pool parties, barbeques, building things, travels near and far, and—most of all – yearly RV trips to Mexico. When Bill passed your positivity still allowed you to see the good things that made life worth living.

Your need for speed was one of your wild traits, whether astride a spirited horse, roaring along on a motorcycle or dune buggy, or behind the wheel of your pride and joy: a 1964 Ford Galaxy 500XL red convertible, a car as bold and unforgettable as you.

Your life was enriched by a musical spectrum of many artists and genres. You saw legends like Elvis Presley, The Beatles and even Jimi Hendrix perform live. You introduced your sons, at an early age, to the magic of The Beatles’ Beatlemania album widening their own interest and enthusiasm in music.

Though we can no longer enjoy your keen sense of humour or be soothed by your kind words, your presence lives on in every treasured memory, every family gathering, and every cherished story retold—woven into the fabric of our lives and the countless hearts you have touched.

We will miss you Mom, beyond words. Your love and spirit remain a guiding light for your children, grandchildren, your extended family, and your many friends.

Rest peacefully, now reunited with loved ones who have awaited you with open arms. As you embark on your eternal journey, know that you will always be with us—in spirit, in memory, and in love.

With all our love,

Your family and friends
