Patrick William Shaw

April 10, 1924 - March 3, 2017

Tribute

Patrick Shaw passed quietly in the early hours of Friday morning, peacefully with family by his side at Cowichan District Hospital after a very short illness. Survived by his wife Pamela, a few weeks shy of their 70th anniversary, he also leaves his daughters, Susan Meanley (Bob) and Jayne Shaw (Jeff). Also survived by grandchildren Jill Hubbard ( Scott), Brian Meanley (Carrie), Cristina Shaw (David Wahler), Great Grandchildren Anna and Carmen Meanley, and sister Molly Henderson of England. Pat was predeceased by his parents Ernest and Mary Shaw. Born in Southend-On-Sea, England,  Pat joined the RAF at age 17 and became a bomber pilot during WWII. A scant 5 days after being demobbed from the service in 1947 he married Pam. At that time Pat took training as a teacher in London at the docklands. With two babies Pat and Pam immigrated to Canada arriving in Duncan in the middle of winter 1954. Within a few years he joined the RCAF and served Canada in many capacities until his retirement in 1971. He returned to Duncan and built the first of 4 homes in the Cowichan Valley. They travelled the world for the next 35 or so years always returning to the Valley, living in Crofton, Duncan and Lake Cowichan. In his later years he enjoyed the Valley Seniors Organization of Duncan, carpet bowling and playing shuffleboard. The family would like to thank the nurses and doctors at CDH Emergency department. Special thanks to Dr. Teresa Elliot for her tireless care of Dad for his last many years. No service by request.

From: Betty & Ken Reese
Relation: Shuffleboard player.

We are so sorry to hear of Pat’s passing. Our deepest condolences to his wife & all his family. I had many wonderful chats with Pat about his younger years, & he was always so proud to pull out his pictures to show me, & tell me his stories of his life. He was a wonderful man & I’ll miss him. Maybe we can have some shuffleboard games in Heaven, Pat? We made a good team.
