Patrick Stephen Heslop

December 5, 1954 - July 22, 2017

Tribute

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Patrick Stephen Heslop, aged 62. Pat left us peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 22, 2017.

Pat was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on December 5, 1954 and grew up in a big family. He will be forever missed by his wife, Kelley (Davies) Heslop, his mother Wilda Heslop, his children; Carrie-Anne, Shane (Nicole), Darryl, Alisha (Andrew), grandchildren; Gabriella, Malachai and Amelia, siblings; Kelly (Wilma), Dave (Joanne), Mike and Erica. He also leaves behind Aunts and Uncles, Nieces and Nephews, In-laws and Out-laws, as well as many good friends. Pat was predeceased by his sister Madelaine, his brother Eric, and his father Jack Heslop, a man he truly admired and loved.

While living in Colwood, BC, Pat attended Dunsmuir High School. He was a roofer and a mason, who was very talented at constructing chimneys and fireplaces, he was also a logger. His last job at was at the Catalyst Pulp and Paper Mill in Crofton. He was employed there over 25 years and never did retire.

Pat was considered “Old School”, a “Man’s Man”, he was the truest of gentlemen. He pretended he was “GRUMPY”, but that evolved into “Almost GRUMPY”.  He displayed the best characters a man could have, He was loyal, brave, honest, funny, kind and honourable. He was a much-loved husband, a reliable friend and a beautiful gentle spirit.

Pat had two real passions in life, fishing and antique tube radios. His wife was his fishing partner. They battled back and forth for many years, competing for the glory of the winning fishing LOONIES. His wife has just recently admitted that she accidentally caused many of his fish to get away with her deceptive netting technique.  So we do not know who actually won the most loonies. Hopefully Pat is watching and saying to himself “I KNEW IT!” When he wasn’t fishing, or thinking about fishing, Pat could be found in his antique radio man cave where he spent a lot of time tinkering and refurbishing old radios. He had over a hundred of them. He hardly ever electrocuted himself. Pat served 10 years as a volunteer firefighter for the community of Mesachie Lake, BC, where he lived all of his adult life.

His life was cut short and it will take a long time to get over the huge loss of his passing. We have shared so many wonderful memories and he is going to be deeply missed by all who knew him.

We were fortunate to have had him in our lives and now we will hold our love for him in our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Mesachie Lake Fire Hall on Saturday, August 5th, 2017, at 12:00pm.
